Timing Question: A Pinch of Powder

By qkershner, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

A Pinch of Powder

After A Pinch of Powder comes out of the shadows, attach it to a character.

Limited Response: After you win an Intrigue or Power Challenge by 3 or more STR, return the attached characters to its owner's hand. Then you may kneel 3 Influence to return A Pinch of Powder to Shadows.

Question: What is the timing for all of this? Meaning, I win my challenge by 3 or more, do I respond BEFORE the claim resolves, or after?

After, as always gran_risa.gif It's like a regular response, it always comes after claim and after passives.

Step1. The challenge will resolve (count str, determine winner, suffer claim, award unopposed).

Step 2. Save/Cancle (ex. Red Vengeance

Step 3.

Step 4. Passives (Deadly, Let My Porridge Fly)

Step 5. Responses (Here's where APoP can be triggered).

So if you won intrigue by 3 STR and they had no cards in hand, you don't get to put the card back in hand first. Better to do power and return it to hand and _then_ do the INT. Also, because the card does say "Then you may" the first part must be successful, meaning if you use it on a Unique character iwth a duplicate and they discard the duplicate to save the character from returning to hand you would not be able to pay 3 influence to put it back into Shadows.

Actually, that brings up another question about 'saving'. Can you save a character (with a duplicate or effect) from ANY effect that removes it from play? Killing, Discarding, Returning to Hand, etc? Maybe it's the terminology that is throwing me off.

You can save it from leaving play (except for going back to shadows) using a duplicate. Other saves specify what are they useful for. For example, Bodyguards saves brom being killed or discarded while Lightbringer only saves from being killed.
