Custom terrain ideas

By Hepitude, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Does anyone have thoughts on cool terrain abilities? I've been thinking about larger scale terrain that doesn't require occupation or restrict movement, but still grants abilities. For instance a low wall could run along a good portion of the battlefield and grant +1 armor if you're being attacked across it. Has anyone tried anything like this or have cool ideas?

I've been so focused on organized play that I haven't really given much thought to anything I can't use in a tournament. But this kind of thing certainly sounds fun!

Custom objectives could also serve a similar purpose; if you look at what they've done just with the official objectives (giving you things to chase, fire that hurts, etc) you can do all sorts of cool things with those objective tokens. One classic scenario we used to use with a game called Confrontation (shout-out to any old Rackham fans!) was to put some tokens on the board that represented sheep. Anytime a unit ended movement within a certain range of them, they would move directly away from the unit a certain distance, and the goal was to pick up as many as possible. It was a little like Hunter's Quarry, except that the tokens always moved away from you, so you had to kind-of "herd" them by getting one unit in position then using another to chase.

So funny! There was a BattleLore: Command scenario all about protecting sheep from getting defeated (basically eaten) by Ravos and his band of obscenes! It fits perfectly with established lore!

In one of the early game night kits or something there was a scenario that took place in the Mistlands, and the dense fog limited all ranged attacks to range 1-3. Simple, yet it really helps to immerse you in the lore.

Oh yeah, that was a fun one:

(Sorry for the low-rez scan)

I have some paper Mage Knight terrain that I thought of using. Tall walls, towers, bridges, and winding waterways you can connect. I thought about setting up a board with a river across it and making rules for crossing the water by fording the river, or over the singular bridge. Also thought about making some type of castle siege scenario with the walls.
