Quest Guides

By Vanz_007, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi All,

New to Decent and this forum, just bought Descent - Journeys in the Dark, Second edition and just started learing how to play, found several vids on youtube, I like this one quite a bit:

Wanted to now play this with my kids, but I found this quest and many quests on Youtube aren't in my quest guide? I have "Heirs of Blood" Act I and Act II.

Is there any way I can download or buy these other quest guides?

The vids do a pretty good job of explaining how to play but I can't read the details of the quest, like victory conditions or special rules or even the aloud comments, which look like they add a lot of atmostphere to the game.

Thanks,

Vanz

The game originally shipped with "The Shadow Rune" campaign, and "Heirs of Blood" was a campaign that could be purchased separately.

Since then, Heirs of Blood now comes with the core box, and Shadow Rune is no longer available.

Originally I thought FFG had plans to re-release Shadow Rune at some point, but it seems unlikely now. There is no official way to gain access to these quests now, I'm afraid short of finding an older copy of Descent with the old quest guide.

Seriously...that really sucks, as I haven't found a decent tutorial video that uses any of the "Heirs of Blood" quests and many that use the "Shadow Rune", plus the ones in "Shadow Rune" seem really good, anyone want to sell me their guide? This is a real turn off for me for buying future stuff from FFG, would be a nice thing for the company to support their customers by either providing the old guides as a downloadable pdf or I'd be willing to buy it on Amazon or wherever...

ask them Shadow Rune guide: their support is good and, if they still have it, they will send it to you :-)

okay, thanks tibia, I'll give it a try...

if anyone has it already could you please email to me, email = [email protected]

thanks,

V

Honestly, the Shadow Rune is kinda bad. They replaced it for good reason.

Yeah, I understand your point of view here, but the this is actually a case of FFG Supporting their game and community basically free of charge by including the better campaign in current core boxes, rather than essentially forcing people to buy the Heirs of Blood book separately.

I have been playing Descent with my son since he was around 6 years old (he loves 'watch it played' too). I would recommend just giving the first scenario in Heirs of Blood a go with him after watching the Watch it Played, just take your time to explain the mechanics of the quest as best you can (OL needs to get goblins down to the caravan, and can do so consistently every round, so that is a hard timer on the encounter, half that time if no heroes are there to kill the goblins).

Just remember to sell the scenario as a story. I found it important to frame each encounter as a story that can go well or go badly to make up the story of the campaign, rather than heroes winning or losing each encounter, when introducing the game to my kid.

The friend i introduced Star Wars Armada to, introduced me to Descent.

I just purchased the Descent Core Set and the six Lieutenant Packs that go with it.

Since i am a completionist, i will be getting all expansions, hero and monsters sets, CO-OP expansions and lieutenant packs.

But i have a question:

Since the core set comes with HEIRS OF BLOOD as the campaign, and not too insult my own meager intelligence, does this mean that i DO NOT have to purchase the HEIRS OF BLOOD campaign book?

Yep. You already have the campaign that was originally sold as a hard-cover book, no need to purchase it again.

Thank you my friend.

Another question.

I was told that if i dont have any of the 1st edition Descent material, the Conversion Pack is not necessary since most of the heroes and monsters from the 1st edition will be in the Hero and Monster packs.

I also have Oath of the Outcast on the way to me as well.

So is this a correct statement?

Oh yeah...I also asked FFG if they have any copies of the THE SHADOW RUNE quest guide laying around that they can send me.

Yeah, if you're getting the Hero and Monster collections there isn't that much reason to have the conversion kit. You'll miss out on about a dozen heroes that never got converted, but by that point you'll have a ton of variety anyways.

Awesome.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I don't have any of 1st edition but I bought the conversion kit as I am also a completionist.

I decided to take 2 conversion heroes out for a spin this weekend. I have their minis from Runebound 3rd. You can always proxy the minis as well.

Awesome! I've been looking for painted versions of these new scuplts! How did they play out?

Hopefully FFG comes out with a new H&M pack that includes updated cards for these minis (and updated heroes and monsters as well!) :)

I hope so too! I stopped playing to watch the football. I'll resume tomorrow.

well...FFG stated to me that they have no more copies of THE SHADOW RUNE quest guide available.

Does any one have a .pdf i can print out?

I'd suggest checking out Boardgamegeek, the individual forum for each game has a files section and someone may have scanned it in.

I doubt it. The quest guides are the only part of Descent that FFG doesn't allow to be hosted online. That said there are PDFs floating around, just nobody talks about it openly.
