A question about how damage is applied to squads

By Digitalfiends, in Star Wars: Legion

I know the game isn't out yet, but after talking to someone in another thread, I have a question about how damage is applied to a squad. My understanding of the rules from watching various videos is that damage is applied to regular squad units before the squad's leader. If that is true, then how do resolve this scenario:

Say you have two units left in a squad: the unit leader and a trooper. You have LOS to the leader but the trooper is behind a corner, which to my understanding means he can't be hit (and makes perfect sense). If that is true, then you can only target and damage the squad leader but again, from what I understand, you can't kill the leader until the remaining regular units have been eliminated. If that is correct, then this creates a situation where you have squad that is partially visible but technically unhittable because damage would have to be applied to the hidden trooper before the squad leader. How do you resolve that situation?

This scenario is only viable if you can't kill the squad leader before finishing off the regular units. If you can kill a squad leader before the other units, how do you resolve movement once the leader is gone?

You would still be able to shoot at that unit but you take the non leader away as a casualty. Also though if your squad leader is killed for any reason you pick a new unit to be squad leader.

That's what I figured but when discussing this with someone else in another thread, it was stated:

Quote

Not true. LOS and range is measured from each trooper to see if they can shoot the target. And for taking casualties if you cant trace LOS to the trooper he can’t die

This is why I started the thread. If the above statement is correct, then technically the trooper in my example that is behind a building shouldn't be able to suffer damage - the squad leader would. So if damage is absorbed by regular units before the leader and the above quote is correct, then my scenario would result in having to break LOS rules would it not? This is all under the assumption that the squad leader has to die last when applying damage.

I've been out of miniatures gaming for quite some time, so perhaps this type of situation has already been addressed in other games.

We already know that if Command units are killed one of the squad leaders steps up( it's in a spanish unboxing vid). I imagine at unit level it will be the same *if* jabby was correct.

i the nonleader in that example is killed I guess we can say that either the trooper jumped out to protect their leader or more cynically the leader grabbed the man and used him/her as a shield.

The impression I got from Alex Davey's explanation (team covenant demo) is that, in your example, the squad leader would die, then the fig out of LOS would be promoted to the leader. If that fig happens to have a special weapon then IDK if he keeps it or not.

I don't think I've watched the TC video yet ... going to check it out now. That's great news about being able to kill the squad leader before the other units. Cool. :)
