New player - which cards?

By AlexGibbons, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hi everyone,

Got the white starter set for Xmas (Kylo and Ray). Really loving the game so far!

keen to get into the competitive side, however obviously have very few cards. My local game shop owner has no idea which sets are good to get and it will be pretty expensive to try and collect all the cards at this point

what I am thinking of doing is just buying singles and play sets of the must have cards from the Awkenings sets....and focus on boosters of the new legacy set?

the challenge is what cards and I looking for? Obviously there will be a few, however assume it’s better to target a bunch of key cards that drop loads of money on older boosters?

If anyone can point me/list the cards I should be hunting down that would be amazing!!!!

Thanks

Well with a new set coming out presently the strongest decks for the next 3 months are still up in the air, but utilising your starter set A deck called R2P2 has been strong, heres a variant i just dragged up with a glance at swdestinydb:

In general swdestiny db has a lot of decklists to spark your imagination.

Really there are no cards that are super necessary. Most are just good cards that would be nice to have. But what I suggest is to just put it toward the next set, Legacies.

Legacies is a new set altogether and will bring in all that you really need, new control, new characters, new upgrades, etc. If you do it this way you will likely start slower and not have all that you need for the metas but this way you will still be able to do reasonably well. I started with Awakenings and did not have to make this decision when I started so it depends on how much you are willing to spend and whether you want a fun competitive or a play to win competitive.

But if you really want to know what will be good from the past set, probably Qui-Gon due to shields getting much better, Shoto Lightsabers, Handcrafted Lightbows will be amazing (Really wish that I had some). And Maz will be good especially with Obi-Wan (Legacies). Force Speeds will be OP with special chaining (specifically Yoda) also Ancient Lightsabers and this is just with Blue Heroes.

For Supports (every color), U-Wing, Y-Wing, and T-47 more would make it better but these are the only necessities that I can think of.

Yellows, Second Chances for heroes, and not too much else that I can think of (I’m sure that there are more though).

Reds, depend on your play style (defensive, offensive, or just for fun).

But other than that there isn’t too much else. Blue is probably where I would focus on getting good stuff being that they just keep getting better and better (specifically the heroes).

Hope this helps and wasn’t too confusing. But it is always fun to have more members of our Destiny community.

Thanks, basically keen to spend a bit to get up to speed and Aquire key cards, appreciate you guys outlining what some of those are.

can anyone reccomend and singles selling site? There seems to be a few however having not purchased individuals before it’s hard to know what sites are legitimate and charge a fair price.

Starwars Destiny DB is your friend.

I would suggest buying a play set of commons and uncommons from each set.

Buy two hold out blasters, sith holocrons and maybe vibro knifes. Then its really up to what deck you want to play fir wich other rares and legendaries you need to buy.

On the what to get as many said suggest Legacies. You will want older cards but if your going to try and be "Competitive" you may want to focus mostly on Legacies and forward and just pick up a handful of older cards. The reason being is they announced how they will Rotate, aka retire, older sets. Everything before Legacies, with exception of the 2 player starter, will rotate out of legal play come the first quarter of 2019, so a little over a year. Focusing on getting the must haves out of Legacies forward would give you the Maximum amount of time that the cards are legal for competitive, cause in a way any Awakenings cards are already half done with their lifespan in competitive.

As for single sellers if you are in the US Game Haven has good prices and ships relatively fast. As Josh suggested you grab key cards, like Holdout and Vibro but beside that grab mostly the newer stuff.

A second white starter would be great!!!
