Imperial Officer Colours

By Belphegor07, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

Hi fellow painters

I have recently started painting my core set (first time painting minitures). Currently finished my stormtroopers, eweb engineers and royal gaurds.

Next on my list, the imperial officers but im struggling to decide what to paint their uniforms.

I have been following sorastro's fantastic guides but he suggests painting an olivey green colour and to my knowledge, that usual symbolises the imperial navy. As the missions seem to be my land based (please correct me if im wrong) i want to paint them to reflect that.

Having scoured wookiepedia for some illumination, it seems a black uniform is for stormtrooper captains. However i'd imagine painting all black may look a bit boring and would be hard to shade at my lowley level?

General Veers seems to wear grey, perhaps that is a good colour for officers?

Hoping to hear from peoples knowledge on correct imperial colours and also any experience or advice with these models would be fantastic. Or even so inspiration

Many thanks

Bwahahahaha. One of my favorite subjects. Wookipedia aside, here's the bare bones facts.

Black uniforms for (most) of the officers in ANH. Green uniforms for everyone in ESB and ROTJ. At least I don't think there were black uniforms... maybe some on Endor...

Veers has a typical green uniform with a breastplate and helmet added. It looks grey because of lighting and such, to the point that Kenner's original action figure was grey.

Black uniforms are far easier to paint. I went with green because it's the opposite of red and will therefore set off the guards and vader's lightsaber very well. However I mixed a slightly too bright shade of green and am considering painting black over it!

I painted all of mine different colors, one had a black uniform, one had a greyish, greenish uniform and I painted to elite one to look like Krenic from Rogue One (White tunic, white pants, black hat

Thats exactly the route im thinking of going down actually

I chose to do two officers in black ("generic" imperial officers to match the card art), and the other as an ISB officer (white tunic, black pants).

It just made sense to me that the ISB might represent itself in a situation where there was a high rebel threat.

When I did research to paint the officers, I eventually came to the conclusion that either black or something along the lines of "German Field Grey" (the Vallejo version of which is a nearly perfect match for the olive color I saw in reference images*) would work best. I settled on the field grey because they are much more common as officers, plus I thought the grey/green would stand out more on the table.

For differentiation, I did slightly different rank markings on the lapel and different hair colors, which are nearly unnoticeable when they are in play. I ended up painting gloves on the elite officer to make him stand out a tiny bit more.

*I used Wookipedia, TheForce.net, as well as the Rebels TV series for references.

I did mine in what a Google search told me was Navy (dark grey), army (light grey) and ISB (white coat, black trousers)

I went 2 navy grey and 1 black for elite. I also made the elite a blue skinned Chiss/Early career Thrawn.

I did mine black for the generics as stormtrooper officers and grey for the elite:
