Improving Jedi survival

By Nheko, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hi guys.

I will be playing a redeemed executioner who trains as a Jedi (Ataru Striker) to atone himself, and will start at knight level.

I am not too much concerned about damage output with the quick strike synergy and lethal blows talents, but I do with survival in a long fight.

Can you recommend me another spec to improve my survival? Soresu perhaps?

Anything that gives Parry and Reflect, preferably with the improved/supreme versions if they have them. Since you will be using a lot of strain that way, something that boosts your strain will be useful as well.

With enough ranks in Parry/Reflect, while you are not unstoppable, if you have the strain to burn, you can seriously extend your survivability in a combat scenario.

Also buy the Sense Force power upgrades, that let you commit a Force die to your defense, upgrading the difficulty of attacks coming at you. This makes it harder for them to hit you in the first place, and if they do succeed (probably with minimal damage from the roll), you can mitigate it with the parry/reflect tricks.

Martial Artist helps, Shien definitely helps.

Consequently if you don't mind burning destiny I would suggest learning the Makashi shuffle which requires maxing out force leap and a talent called Preemptive avoidance.

Finally Ebb and flow can be nice...

A more deep answer; find something to do with your life other then killing.

Seriously, going from executioner into advisory or shadow can offer unique ways of resolving situations. Fiction is literally packed with examples of people that chose to give up the blade for whatever reason to seek a new life, only to have their past catch up to them and dive deep into violence again. Playing as a character who knows the weight of violence, but tries to be the diplomatic voice of reason always works. Or a character who otherwise tries to turn their talent toward some other sign of reasons.Seer/Sage also works, providing deeper understanding of the force while producing new avenues for development

Otherwise everyone else has it covered.

First, Happy New Year!

Second, thanks to everyone for their responses. I have thinking into this, and I think I’ll deviate from my original concept a little. I think I’ll go from a reformed hitman into crime fighting with Executioner/Shien Expert/Investigator and if I earn enough xp Shii-Cho Knight.

My only question will be which stats should I focus? Brawn, Cunning and Willpower?

Manners, typos :(

So just to clarify you are starting a Knight level play character. spending 70 xp into cross classing from Seeker specs to Sentinel specs, and possibly another 50 into Warrior - Shi-Cho?

I'm just baffled why so many cross-classes? The "executioner" past could just be flavor for your character, and you can focus developing into who your character wants to be.

That said, to answer your OP:

Assuming Base Human as species and adding +10 exp from morality;

buy to 4 Cunning and 3 Willpower. Leaving 20 exp. Descend shien tree to "Shien Technique". leaves 5 exp from initial pool

5 + 150 knight level = 155 exp to spend.

You'll want discipline as a class skill in order to A.) be able to resist force powers, B.) Use most force powers on nemesis / named rivals. Use the Human versatility to select discipline and one other non career skill to get a free rank in them.

Buy Into Sentry (20 exp) -

Buy Into Shadow (30 exp) - then buy down to "Well Rounded" and get discipline and one other as a career skill,

Up your discipline to 2 min( 10 exp) ( 2y1g pool now)

Buy Surpress with mentor bonus (you said you were trained in your background in force things?) (5 exp) - Buy Duration and Strength upgrades (10 exp) - will let you hamper other force users attempts to affect you and your comrades.

Buy Sense with Mentor Bonus ... (5 exp) - and the Control: Upgrade Difficulty Mod. (10 exp) - helps make you harder to hit in general with combat skills.

This leaves you with 60 xp to spread how you see fit - I would recommend you buy talents in Sentry Tree - as much as you want ( there are lots of good defensive talents in this tree including Dodge, more ranks of Reflect, and Impossible Fall. For offense it has Saber throw. Also a force rating and dedication.). Also buy a 2nd rank in lightsaber if you are starting with one (also are you being made to "buy" the lightsaber with your starting funds? if so, you'll not have armor, so that may affect what you spend these 60 points on.

Hi TystramK,

My bad I didn’t explained this very thorough. I will start at Knight level, yes, however I didn’t want to cross-train into all the specs. This, as I should have explained better, is more of a projection for the future.

I do want to start as a Executioner and buy stats and talents: Grit, Quick Strike, Toughened, Quick Draw and Lethal Blow for starter, and then buy into Shien Expert with and handful of talents: Conditioned, Parry, Street Smarts, Shien Technique and Reflect, the rest to split between Skills and Force Powers. Later on as we move on the campaign I can see dipping into Investigator or Sentry (depends on how does the Campaign flows, I don’t want to shoot myself on the foot by taking the wrong spec) and definitely into Shii-Cho Knight. The later choices will depends, like I said before, how does the Campaign turns into, a military one or more investigation and social or an exploration one...

Sorry for any misunderstandings.

PS For this concept, besides Brawn and Cunning shall I increase Intellect or Willpower?

If your going Sentry; Stealth and Coordination are Agility based, Vigilance is Willpower. Investigator is Cunning and Intelligence.
