As the sorceress, if i land on a space with another character, i may attempt to beguile. After that, do I also choose whether to encounter the space or attack a character on the space? If I land on a space with two characters, may I attempt to beguile both?
Beguile
Dagnabbit. I wanted to delete this post, but you don't have the option!
Sorry, I misread your question!
If you check out the Turn Encounter Sequence it is quite clear in this regard.
Encounter space or character. If you encounter character, then it's either battle/psychic combat OR special ability. Then turn ends.
Wait, I must have missed something in the rules. I thought one have to encounter the space first (if required) and only then if possibly could one encounter another character. What have I overlooked?
I was completely befuddled when I asked my question. Comes from being absent minded. :-)
You have a choice of encountering the space, or a character on the space, and they're mutually exclusive. (Take a peek at the flow chart on the back page of the new rules. Useful!)
Question: If I am evil and land on a character in the chapel, and I choose to encounter them (fight or special ability) , do I lose a life because of my alignment? (assuming I don't have the Cross or Druid Wand, nor playing the Druid of course)
As it stands, if you land on the Chapel and decide to encounter a Character there, you do not lose a life if you are Evil. It's the same with the Desert.
This is one of the areas that I'm really not happy with about spaces such as the Chapel/Desert in that they do not follow "real" logic, merely "game" logic.
I've been considering resurrecting the Talisman X feature on my site to detail suggested House Rules and other Experimental Rules for the game. Global Space Effects would be one of those suggested rules...

But the rules imply that landing on happens before encountering - you land on a square, then you choose to either encounter the character ot the square. It's easy to assume that the Sorceress powers happen in the "land on" phase rather than the "encounter" phase. I think the powers should read "instead of encountering" or "before encountering".

My group has already house ruled the "Global Space Effects" into action. It makes more sense to have it that way, and sometimes a life is sacrificed in order to attack a weaker character that holds a desirable object.
A question that's been raised by some other topics here in the forum and I report it in this topic.
The Hag, the Poltergeist and the Jester are now "Followers". Can they now be Beguiled by the Sorceress or Mesmerized with a Spell?
This is really important because the Poltergeist can very be useful, even if it has been thought as a penalty. It can generate stalemates (Good Character-Chapel, or Character-Healer), allow Pool draining in few Turns, ecc....
I need an official (or semi-official) clarification before I start playing with Revised 4th edition. Thanks very much
