Build-A-Bomber Workshop

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive, unexpected Rebel platform to carry Sabine into a fight for me. Something that my opponent wouldn't really expect to be a bomber, but is respectable enough in the role to really pull its own weight. I'm not terribly concerned about pilot skill or abilities - it's the platform, mainly, I'm thinking about. Two ideas stand out to me most...

  • Blue Squadron Pilot (B-Wing) - B-Wing/E2, Sabine Wren, Trajectory Simulator, and Extra Munitions for 28 points (plus Bomb of choice)
  • Blue Squadron Pathfinder (U-Wing) - Pivot Wing, Sabine Wren, Trajectory Simulator, and Extra Munitions for 28 points (plus Bomb of choice)

The U-Wing is faster, has higher agility, and the possibility of an extra crewman (Even Chopper has his occasional uses), at the cost of K-Turns and being able to dodge its own Trajectory Bombs (outside of a full stop). It's also a bigger target. The B-Wing is a little more maneuverable in tight spaces, and has a slightly better hull/shield ratio, but is slower and has only 1 agility. Both can carry Extra Munitions for multi bombing options.

Your thoughts?

I think it depends on what you are running with it. If you have jousters/ordinance carriers, than I think the B-wing would be the better option overall. IF you have other bombers(like the new one), than you probably want something more mobile. I've been working on a bomber list that uses a very light K-wing, to carry her around the battle. She can drop bombs, slam to run away. And it's only 2 dice primary, but it works very well as a distraction. No one wants Sabine on the table, your opponent wants her to die, so a ship that can get out of dodge fast is a huge plus.

And don't forget you can take Linked Battery on the B-Wing to make sure it pulls its weight without FCS if you have the points.

I like Sabine on Dash. And with AP-5 you can use the coordinate action first thing to allow dash to barrel roll ton a sweet spot and drop that surprise bomb

Crimson Dash AP-5 ( 100 )

"Crimson Specialist" — B/SF-17 Bomber 27
Trajectory Simulator 1
Bomblet Generator 3
Sensor Cluster 2
Ship Total: 33
Dash Rendar — YT-2400 36
Veteran Instincts 1
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Sabine Wren 2
Cluster Mines 4
Outrider 5
Ship Total: 52
AP-5 — Sheathipede-class Shuttle 15
Ship Total: 15

I've seen nifty things with Sabine riding in a TIE with Ahsoka, but even with VI bringing her to PS 9, that might not really high enough these days.

How about an Auzituck? The downside is no Trajector Simulator or second bomb, but the upside is the huge 180 degree firing arc and a clear dial. I'd go Ion for cheapness and to mess up anyone who gets behind you. The Kashyyyk Defender at PS 1 is iffy, perhaps with either Maul (31 with Ion) or Rey (30) crew in addition to Sabine. I think a better idea might be a PS 3 Wookiee Liberator. Rage/Inspiring Recruit/Sabine will come in at 32 points with Ion bomb , and you'll hit like a truck with full rerolls and focus. Selflessness (or Draw Their Fire)/Sabine/Rey/Ion on Lowhhrick is a 35 point ship, and will certainly eat fire to protect the rest of a list.

I would drop Sabine from the B-Wing, I know for two points it seems good, but there are two problems with the B-Wing. It's dial is utter crap and its a glass cannon. If your opponent can get behind you in range 1 or far range 2 the bombs won't do their job like they should and the B-Wing will be destroyed within a round or two and your cluster mines will remain there just looking cool. I would recommend something else lie the ARC-170 and is this meta no one really uses it as a bomber plus its a MUCH stronger ship than the B-Wing but more expensive.

Any Sabine's TIE with Scavenger Crane, Sabine, and a Bomb is a really neat, really cheap carrier.

However, I also like the idea of using a B-Wing. I firmly believe that a BSP with Linked Battery and Adv. Sensors is a TREMENDOUSLY impactful cheap build, having a reroll and a guaranteed other action every turn. However, when you throw on Sabine, an action mine (appropriate with the low PS), and EM, you suddenly have a reasonably priced, immediately and continually effective ship that, I might add, cannot be Thweeked.
