Happy New Year Friends

Happy New Year Friends.

So if FFG was to drop an Ace Pack what would you want to see in it?

Wes Janson in an x-wing. Wraith squadron as a generic unique. Alternatively, blue squadron and general what's-his-face from rogue one. Phoenix squadron for A- Wings, either wedge or Hobbie as the ace. Hera as the b wing ace, and nova squadron as the generic. No idea on y-wings off the top of my head.

An imperial ace to increase fighter survivability somehow of other squadrons.

Rebels get Jan, Biggs and Gallant Haven....... The Empire only have Stronghold on the Quasar.

I don't think we'll get another ace pack before we see the TLJ squadron pack.

We'll see Poe Dameron in an X-wing (T70 of course), the A-wing pilot, and the Bomber. The very first speed 1 squadron. The bomber will be overcosted and under-gunned but take up a full third of the preview article.

On the First Order side, Kylo Ren will actually be very good with a profile similar to Valen but black bomber dice and 1-2 blue anti squadron. We'll also see the command shuttle, which I suspect will ditch Relay for some sort of super-strategic ability. I'm betting Hux or the other commander appears here. The TIE/SF comes in as a specialized bomber version of the standard TIE, piloted maybe by Phasma.

Happy New Friday!

Vault Skarrif as a TIE/D pilot ace, Wraith Squadron (x wing squad with cloak and bomber, no escort)

We clearly have 8 squadrons from the new films now, and also would expect this before more aces. After the Corellian Campaign we have more than enough aces.

  1. FO TIEs (4 hull)
  2. FO S/F TIEs (4 hull TIEs with bomber )
  3. TIE Silencer
  4. FO shuttle

  1. T-70 X-wing
  2. Resistance A-Wings
  3. Resistance bombers
  4. Resistance transport

My bet is this, the Raddus and the Finalizer as wave 8

I’m not seeing how they can make the new XWing and TIEs visually distinct. Kinda thinking they’ll either have identical stats OR be left out entirely.

I’m happy with a new campaign box set that does 1 new ace for each squad.

And 2 more fighters:

FO TIE Interceptor, FO TIE Bomber - as seen in a hologram.

or simply different cards and dials may be enough as long as they can be recognised, like generic unique squads are done rn for some (X-wing and TIE/FO) while the others have slightly changed designs that could be made clear to be distinct from the older by changing a bit of the model (A-wings and TIE/SF notably)

I have a hard time thinking it can be done elegantly. I have played with people who have trouble seeing the pieces as-is. With such small miniatures, I doubt they can make a OT TIE look different enough at a glance from a Sequel TIE. I’m a proponent of the WYSIWYG.

I think the best way to visually differentiate the very similar units (FO Ties/bombers, X wings) would be to do something with the base. Change from black to a dark grey, or a medium/dark blue. Maybe a medium blue fading to black with the blue on the side away from the health scale. Or change the health to go from blue to red (or even a blue to orange) instead of green to red.

These aren't exactly colorblind friendly options here, but it's the only way I can think of to really differentiate new trilogy fighters from old trilogy content. If they carried the concept over to the ships also it wouldn't hurt.

As for aces. Stick to what works. Give us a new campaign with new aces for the Imp/Rebels II squadron packs. If they were really generous they could also do Rogue and Villains and maybe revitalize some of the nearly worthless ships in that pack.

I would actually like this, make it 8 hull, 2 blue 1 black antiship bomber, 2 blue anti fighter but speed one. Make it so you have to take the pelta with affm and fct to speed up enough to be useful.

I could see White TIEs and Black X-Wings. It's tough to say. Just having a slightly squatter TIE Fighter or a more breakable X-Wing doesn't work well. Heck, I think the Aces are badly designed as well.

The designer in me says you should be able to quickly glance at a table and know what something is and what it does. The faces on the dials are hard to see across the table and having generics with different stats that look the same has the same problem.

That doesn't stop you from painting them with white solar panels and black hull.

First Order / Resistance models could just come with different keywords. That's all that differentiates the non-ace uniques now, some of which have slightly different dice.

It'd get a bit annoying if you bring something exaggerated like 4 TIE Fighters, 4 FO TIE Fighters, 2 TIE Interceptors, 2 FO TIE Interceptors, all unpainted. Or if you painted your non-FO squadrons in FO colors (possibly before the release of FO cardboard).

But I think it'd be sufficiently manageable, so long as the difference in keywords isn't extreme.

But mostly, I just want E-Wing, Lancer, and Z-95 uniques from Corellian Conflict 2.0 (Mon Cala Mayhem? Tatooine Tug-Of-War?).

Lothal Liberation or I eat my hat.

How about the Mandalore fighters now that Chimaera will have the Gauntlet? I think it's called "Fang"

Plastic color could work I suppose. White plastic for Resistance versions and Black plastic for First Order.

I've never been really happy with the Aces either, but it gets the job done. You can't tell from a distance, but you at least see a face, know it's an Ace, and can pause and look.

I can't find one, but I was basing it off of memory from the movie. I could be wrong, of course, but that is what they looked like. . . they were pretty distinctive, and why would they have holograms of the old ones?

I must've missed it. Went off searching through Wookieepedia for then and couldn't find anything. Anybody else see this or have a link?

I remember seeing them but can't recall any differences between them and the old school ones, they all look like a suicide pod with wings to my rebel eyes.

They appeared:

When DJ is pointing out how war is a business in the stolen ship. First comes up a TIE/FO, then the Interceptor, then the Bomber, then the X-Wing.

Oooo... I think my wife was talking during that scene... >:[

I couldn’t distinct them from the OT ones, but I think I just didn’t pay enough attention
