Team Epic list - The Missile Raider

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Looks like you care about Team Epic, nonetheless Epic in general! I really love the Raider-class Corvette and just couldn't wait to load it up with Ordnance Tubes and missiles out the aft. The logic that went into this list is to maximize action efficiency and to get my Raider into range 3 of enemies as soon as possible so I can start acquiring locks on fighters or prepare to bombard another epic ship. The only change I'm really considering is swapping out Rebel Captive for Rear Admiral Chiraneau to boost into the fight faster.

I'm not sure if Howlrunner's ability affects Epic ships as well, but I plan on using her to reroll dice on the Black Squadron Pilots shots at enemy fighters through the Raider, since Trick Shot will add an extra die to their roll for obstructing their attack. My partner also plans on flying a superiority fighter list (Defenders, Silencers) to engage with enemy fighters, so I wanted the space I had left in my 200 points for a defensive escort for my Raider.

The plan is to rush in as fast as possible and create an angled wedge on the battlefield that spits out ordnance at prime targets. Hope it works! I'd like to hear what you guys think!

I dont believe you can obstruct your own shots. Howlrunner can affect the raider, as can Captain Jonus in the bomber to help with the accuracy of your missles(like cluster, or any that you have to spend the target lock). I would drop rebel captive and put on Captain needa to get through the obstacles quicker or chinreau to move another 1 forward. Cluster is close range, so you may not get to fire them often. If you assume their will be a Tantive on the other side, be aware that it tends to have long range covered and usually runs a higher PS than the raider can get and that can put quite the hurt on the Raider as it heads in to get close enough to shoot missles and the quad lasers. Sensor team can be great so that you can get the Target locks early, allowing you to spend you actions elsewhere the following turns. When you are in the thick of it with Capital ships they want to Reinforce and Recover as much as possible, leaving little room for the target locks(which the Impetous title helps with..)

A thing to note: many squad builders allow you to put a modification upgrade on each half of a Raider or CR90. Don't. You're still limited to one per ship, plus Automated Protocols literally does nothing for this ship unless you have an upgrade card equipped that has an action.

For your actual build, I would use 2 or 3 Harpoons, maybe with an Ion Pulse. I wouldn't use any energy weapons without Optimised Generators. You will find that firing the main gun, plus engine booster, plus Backup Shield Generator (essential!) use your energy up fast enough.

Addionally, if you fly a Tie/sf nearby with Targeting Synchronizer, the Raider can use it's target lock. But Jonus is the best support ship.

I like Wed-15 droid crew because being able to fix otherwise deadly crits can be really useful.

Howlrunner's ability does grant a reroll to an epic ship. However, Howlrunner's ability is "primary weapon only" so it won't work on your missiles. Still, rerolls on your "fire twice" primary isn't that bad.

To grant rerolls to Missile or other secondary weapons, you'll need Jonus, as mentioned above.
