Why did that "Why do people hate TLJ" topic get closed? Bad job, mods

Those memes are incorrect. Legends is still canon, Obi-wan didn't just hide in a cave and hopped no one found him, he watched after Luke, as he is a chosen one, Yoda didn't just up and find out Sidious was a Sith and hide, he got his butt kicked by Sidious, a guy that through most the fight wasn't even taking the fight seriously, by hiding he could help train the chosen "ones" that could defeat Vader and the Emperor, them being Anakins children, and it only worked because he had an emotional attachment to them.
Luke was out of character, especially when he up and decided he was gonna take Kylos head of with a Sword and when he was gonna up and kill Kylo later. Vader did a **** of a lot worse yet Luke never gave up on him, he gave up on Kylo. Theirs no logic for that.

I feel this is a bit much. While I do dislike the direction the new trilogy took the main characters' lives -- and that's legitimate as they're beloved characters and not any of the current writers' creations -- my criticism of this movie follows a different tack, and I think that criticism is as reasonable as anyone else's enjoyment. Just different tastes!
Edited by TheHumanHydraFor what its worth, I rather face the Vong then watch the new movies.
QuoteLegends is still canon
It's a canon. The Legends canon specifically. That's why all the new runs of old books have "Legends" printed on them.
Post-Disney buyout they put the EU in a box, labelled it Legends and called it done. Then they took the six films they had at the time and the Clone Wars series and started over.
All the Legends material is canonical within Legends but the new material inhabits a separate continuity.

I'm sorry, Legends is not non-canon, it is just alternate. What is non-canon includes the Lego Star Wars shows and cartoons, and other stuff specifically stated by Disney as non-canon. What Han should be saying then is "It's Legends, all of it."

Thread over, there will be no take hotter!
So, the "THAT Actual Throne Room Scene" thread is completely gone. What happened? Did someone say something insane while I was asleep?
I just wanted to make sure that I patched things up if neccesary with all three of you, @VanderLegion , @Hobojebus , and @Woobyluv . I didn't go in there looking for a fight, I just honestly wanted to provide a counter-opinion to the discussion that was going on there. I also think that it's annoying that the thread got deleted, because if any of you said anything important after my last post, I never got a chance to read it. Anyway, cheers everyone. Frankly kind of annoyed that threads keep getting deleted and locked, because without even being able to hear each other, we're never going to grow as a community.

This is all true, but I refuse to classify anything Disney does post Return of the Jedi as official canon. It is an alternate universe. Someones dark nightmare. The "Legends" are the real canon, and always will be.

That's how I take JJ 's Kelvin timeline.

I'm guessing because it had a bootleg video in the opening post. Surprised it lasted as long as it did actually.
The creator of that thread really needs to stop posting non-xwing star wars threads in the main forum all the time. The mods keep locking, deleting, or moving them here.

Stupid straw man memes... Obi Wan and Yoda were hiding on obscure planets because the Empire had taken over the galaxy and were murdering every Jedi they could find. They didn't go into hiding because they were bitter, grumpy old men who had abandoned everything they believed in because of a past failure. And when their friends and allies came to them for assistance they didn't refuse to help, lock themselves in their cave, and tell them to get lost.

And yet the forum moderators have allowed a thread discussing the Rebels TV show to exist in the general forum for over 3 years while all the active TLJ threads have been moved to the off-topic forum.
If the mods are upset that people are discussing politics in a movie review thread maybe they should complain to Rian Johnson. He is the one who polluted the Star Wars franchise by putting politics in the script.

Fixed that for you. Or perhaps you forgot how democracy dies? Sorry, that's the prequel, I meant "Or perhaps you missed how the original trilogy was a retelling of Vietnam but in space?"
The original trilogy was not a retelling of the Vietnam War regardless of how much George Lucas might have imagined Nixon as Darth Vader. Go ask 10,000 people off the street what the political message was behind Star Wars and then come back and tell us how many of them said it was about the Vietnam war. The only ones that will mention Vietnam will be the ones who have seen it mentioned in Internet articles or "the making of" videos about Star Wars.
In contrast the casino scene in The Last Jedi sounds like it could have been written by Bernie Sanders. The only way they could have made the political message more blatant was if they had used political buzzwords like "one percenters" or "military industrial complex". Go show the casino scene to people off the street and ask them what the political message was. It's not hard to figure out when it comes tumbling out of the characters mouths.
Until this thread I had no clue it had anything to do with vietnam.

I fail to see the connection.

But it still was a good message... even if it was coming from the juggernaut that is Disney.

Just one problem with this meme:
Obi-Want went into exile on Tatooine so he could keep an eye on Luke, and guide him when he was ready. Yoda went into exile on Tatooine to make sure he was still ALIVE when Luke was ready to be trained (I miss the part from the old EU that it was also intended as a trap to lure Vader out. Thus why Luke went by the insanely obvious "Skywalker" and Obi-Wan never dropped his own last name). Both were positioning themselves as best they could to prepare the weapon that would take down Vader and the Emperor and make up for their failures.
Meanwhile, Luke went into exile to be emo and die.

I think the people who call Luke's actions "a betrayal of his character" and talk about "real Jedi" are making the same mistake Luke talks about in the movie. Just because he's a legend doesn't mean he has all the answers or never acts imperfectly.

If you just start with viewing the Ewoks as the Viet Cong and Dantooine as Laos, it all makes perfect sense.

The idea that Luke would stand over his nephew's bed and contemplate murdering him in COLD BLOOD to the point he actually ignited his lightsaber is VERY MUCH a betrayal of his character, and in violation of all his development throughout the Original Trilogy (for one thing he learned first hand — LITERALLY — how stupid it is to blindly act on premonitions from the Force).
And before you bring up that particular strawman, it absolutely DOES NOT compare to his final assault on Vader in RotJ. Vader was an active hostile trying to kill him, that openly made threats against his family which Luke was acting against.

Did he really contemplate it, though? It seemed to me like what was being portrayed was him going to check up on his nephew because of growing concerns, sensing the darkness and igniting his lightsaber in reaction, and then immediately dismissed the idea, but not before Ben woke up and got the wrong idea. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got from my viewings of the movie.

Funny that you say this. Because I was exposed to JJ's movies first before the TV shows and stuff, I enjoy his stuff more.
But it is okay, because it is literally an alternate reality, not Legends and Canon.

The only good thing to come from Disney nuking the old EU was that at least it got rid of New Jedi Order and Fate of the Jedi. ESPECIALLY FotJ. Jacen Solo as a Sith Lord and taking Mara out like a punk was just ridiculous, and Admiral Daala as President of the Alliance? Are you KIDDING me?
