New Falcon look in Han Solo movie.

Is it wrong to hope this is some kind of racing modification? I mean, if we HAVE to see the Kessel Run, can it just be a legit, Mario-Kart/Speed Racer-style starship rally race? Please?

Instead of a mission, this Falcon will come with rules for X-wing racing ;)

I bet this ship is part of the next wave and that why we have no news of it yet.

According to TV's Disney's Rebels, Kessel is an Imperial prison planet where Wookiee slave labor is used to mine spice. The Kessel Run could be a trade route, or a smuggling route. It might not be an organized race.

What does spice do? Why are Imperials mining it? Why is Jabba interested in it? Those are the sorts of things that "Kessel Run Millennium Falcon" suggests to me as story elements to explore, based on Disney's Star Wars canon. There's almost certainly going to be a race, but it might be more of a chase.

Smuggling route does seem the most likely, but that doesn't rule out some color. Again, I'm thinking about that illegal (but still televised) rally race from the Wachowski's Speed Racer movie. Purely from the perspective of the X-Wing minis game, think of the fun thematic crews and all-new illicit upgrades that could be mined if this type of thing were actually to be in the movie.

actually the Casa Cristo race was a legal race in the speed racer film. just one that was notorious for illegal gambling, modifications, and driver actions.

Ah, that's right! Crap - now I want to watch it again :)

X-Wing racing is my favorite alternate format, so heck yeah I'd like to see some movie-race-inspired stuff.

I'm sure we'll have a scene where after Han chops the nose off the Falcon, Lando says "What did yo do to my ship?!"

I just hope the Solo film will be feel good fun. I don't need hokey religions and ancient weapons--give me some tension, some laughs, 'splosions and a couple of high speed chases where our heroes win--but barely.

That's what I think it will end up as. However, I did see that the original scripts and scenes made it into a light-hearted comedy.

Spice is an addictive drug for the most part. Basically, it’s the Star Wars Universe Cocaine.

But that basically describes a final product - there are numberous medical and pharmaceutical products that utilize pre-spice compounds.

Pre spice compounds are not illegal... But final spice is. It comes in many varieties, but most are ultimately deadly and all are illegal.

also stupidly expensive and addictive.

”Spice Heads” and “Spicing up” are common terms relating to it.

And you can guess why The Empire mines / controls it.

Seed drug problems in cities, equip pirates, and soon local governments are gonna be swarming you with cries for help.

Drugs help The Empire grow.

My guess is an asteroid is going to knock that piece off making the ship "faster". *insert asteroid belt hit reference in ESB*

I think that's pre-Disney lore, though, unless there's an episode of Rebels concerning the effects of spice. I mean, if the Solo movie said that spice is a loyalty-enhancing drug, that wouldn't contradict anything we've seen on the big screen. It would just invalidate more of the EU, which we know Disney isn't afraid to do. The idea of Han as an interstellar narcotics smuggler is probably something that Disney would want to flip on its head. It wouldn't shock me if Disney's spice turns out to have medicinal use.

Hippie. ?

But seriously I think I have the kessel run figured out. An asteroid is moving away from a fixed point. A ship starts at that point and goes to the asteroid harvesting spice, returns and repeats. This continues until all useable spice is gone and the falcon did this before said asteroid is more than 12 parsecs away. Ergo the falcon is fast.

Rich Evans (look him up if you don't know) has a good theory: the Kessel Run is a route that passes near several dangerous objects like black holes or ion clouds or whatever. The safest way to make the trip is to give those objects a wide berth (which means a longer trip) but if you're really daring you can try for a more direct but more perilous route. That makes a short Kessel Run a feat of navigation and courage rather than sheer speed.

Yeah im funny like that, I sold my HOTR Falcon, because having two Falcons was just wrong. This one however, is probably different enough that I would keep it. Thing is, if it's going to be the scum faction that just gets Chewie, Han and Lando I will pass. Those guys flies for the rebellion or solo in my fluff heart.

Too bad you and @Pooleman don't play epic. Then 3 different yt1300s would be awesome!!!!

I am quoting “Thrawn”, in the very least that pre spice is not illegal, and there are too many good things it can be turned into, as well as my spice head and slicing up quotes, and that in its heavy full forms are highly addictive and highly illegal.

certainly in-universe current Canon

That was the plot of a pretty good recent Han Solo comics mini series

Unless, most models don't come with a missile launchers. Much like a machine gun is not a standard for a Toyota Corolla.

Then how do folks deal with traffic?!

that isn't a new concept. that is literally what the EU went with 30 some years ago. that kessel is near the 'the Maw", a cluster of black holes. because of the gravity most ships have to skirt round the maw pretty wide to be safe, but the Falcon found a route only 12 parsecs from the edge of the Maw that it could make safely because of its high hyperspace speed.

The point I think Rich was making is that being fast at interstellar travel takes cunning as much as (or more than) engines, but maybe the Falcon really is just flat-out faster than almost anything else.

Oh hey, this excerpt from an earlier article linked to in that article explains what that thing is:
"The Falcon is brand new and owned by Lando in the untitled Han Solo film. It has blue detailing all over it with a white base coat of paint. The other interesting detail is that we finally see the Falcon doing what it is supposed to do with cargo. Basically there’s an attachment that hooks into the front of the ship’s front “forks” and that elongates the front of the ship. It looks seamless but can also detached to drop a shipment of spice if Imperial entanglements get too complicated. The center of the ship allows for access to the cargo."
