future expansions: what would you like to see?

By Susanooo, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Warsong can give the reroll to your flanking calvery which is where I see the gain from that section of the upgrade.

As for the large block, I would actually consider supporting it with two blocks of 2x2 archers equipped with dispatch runner/rally/Sim to give your giant block three attacks. Combined with warsong that's going to be a lot concentrated fire. Doesn't necessarily help with survivability, but it does get the damage in fast.

(Also dispatch triggers a melee attack so you don't want to use it on archers)

Right, thanks for the correction.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is the thing that Ankaur Maro rides a Bone Horror from Descent?

Would be cool to maybe get some units like this! Especially if I am correct as then they're technically already in the game :P

Yes, but they're from BattleLore, not Descent. ;)

(I say this in jest because I playtested Bone Horrors for BattleLore before I heard about them from Descent. I'm not sure which was designed first, but it doesn't really matter.)

You're obviously way cooler than I am! ;)

Descent was my first plunge into the Runebound franchise so it was the first place I went to in my mind :P

On the subject of future expansions, I feel for Waiqar, you only have to look at the Mists of Bilehall Campaign/Expansion and look at the monsters/lieutenants included to get an idea of what could possibly come.

They include Reanimates, which we already have.

Bone Horrors, mentioned above.

Broodwalkers (pictured below) - Probably another type of Siege unit. They leak Sludge which in Descent slows people down, I don't know how that could translate into RMG, maybe some type of melee blight unit. They also have the keyword "terrify" so maybe they might do something with panic or morale tests.

You also have the three lieutenants that could be heroes, one being familiar in the form of Ardus but the other two are Kyndrithul and Zarihell:

Its fun to wonder what could be!

EDIT: Zarihell isn't actually a servant of Waiqar the Betrayer, so probably wouldn’t make an appearance, I'm also not to sure about Kyndrithul's lore either or affiliation, but its not hard to imagine that you could get characters like these in the future!

Broodwalkers sound amazing. I hope they make it into the game. @Zaaik, you're absolutely right that there is a wealth of content to be drawn from the Mists of Bilehall. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see these worm-mounted warriors in the core set, rather than anything we had already seen. Certainly the possibilities for Waiqar are endless.

Kyndrithul is interesting as a Vampire Necromancer. He definitely overlaps with Ankaur Maro's role, but his army building ability would probably grant some kind of bonus to within-faction units, unlike Maro. I wonder what that could be.

From the Lore Guide, it seems that the Lords at Bilehall are not technically under Waiqar's control, though they've pledged their allegiance to him when they gave their lives for more power. Since that time, Bilehall became swallowed by the mists, but it seems to be quite distant from Waiqar's fortress of Zorgas. Kyndrithul was one of those lords, I believe, so he could definitely make an appearance. I kind of hope he gets more Vampires to command.

P.S. It sounds like Broodwalkers would hand out Immobilize tokens with their sludge. I would say, "When an enemy unit collides with your flank, that unit receives 1 immobilize token." Just spitballing ideas.

I would definitely like to see more heros in Runewars.

Flying creatures in general sound like a fun evolution of the game.

Further I think it would be mega cool if as part of some major event prizes (worlds, nationals kind of thing) if a painted hero figure were part of the prize.

Caster Units (sorcerer, necromanccer, druids, wizards, clerics)

Flying Mounts (Pegasusrider, Undead Dragon, Rocrider or Griffon, etc)

Dwarves and Orcs

Huge monsters! Huge monsters!

HUGE.

MONSTERS.

But flying creatures also sound cool.

Heroes from other games set in Terrinoth would be cool. Also mercenaries, both heroes and rank & file.

I'd love to see a big pack of updated dials and cards to tweak some aspects of the game.

What do you think needs tweaking?

I'm not crazy about wind rune or dispatch runner. I think wind rune with stable runes, or maybe make it a shift OR reform.

Dispatch could be a figure upgrade.

I'd love to have the -1 charge on reanimates removed

I know FFG has gone on the record for X-Wing stating that a cards or cardboard only release is not in their marketing strategy and will not happen. Whether this is a license, asmodee, or FFG thing I don’t know, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. They are also extremely hesitant to errata something that creates illegal physical product and would require a new dial. Rewording sure, but beyond that they don’t do it unless they absolutely must.

now releasing a bunch of new neutral upgrades and figure upgrades, that could definitely happen in a campaign box ie Armada’s Correlian Conflict. Could even throw in one each for faction specific upgrades.

Any changes are most likely to appear in the errata section of the FAQ document.

@PoldaConcur, but FFG does have a (fairly new) history of updating errata’ed text in new releases of old units.

However changing a dial? I don’t think they would. They’d release a 0pt herald Waiqar infantry only upgrade that lets you charge at normal speed, in the instance of fixing Waiqar charge as an example (not that I think that needs to happen yet, but I’m biased)

The bone horrors mentioned above would be nice if they were similar to flesh rippers hit points-wise. It would be nice if maro cav upgrade had a home.

Flying Dwarf Monsters?

Or monster flying dwarves, or dwarves flying monsters, ...

flying monster dwarves!!

I want a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater.

Epic units that can shift terrain by 1 or some custom template

FFG produced (or licensed) 3d Terrain? FWIW I'd also love this for Legion

Just put a Darth Vader head on Ardus and pretend it's legion. The fans won't be able to tell the difference, they're just in it for the flavor anyway!
