Mixed Star Wars Groups and Obligation, Duty, Morality

By Gallus Drake, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hello!

I need to know how to work with Obligation, Duty and Morality when i play with a mixed group: should i keep a table for each kind or i have to keep 1 only?

If I use 3 tables any malus does stack?

May you clarify this aspect of the game?

Thankyou

Check out p.338/39 of the Force and Destiny core rulebook for that, that should break it down for you. (tl;dr: make different charts, but just roll once and apply the result to all of them)

I as the only force user is keep track of morality with regards to light/dark

however the entire group is using duty mechanic

There's nothing wrong with using all three, but I also would say to consider finding the most appropriate combination based on the Characters and Players.

Remember a big part of these mechanics are about the player communicating with the GM about what they want the campaign to include. Duty defines specific activities the plays want to do. Obligation defines ways the player wants the campaign to feel more personal. Finally Morality says the player wants to make difficult choices and really role-play thier Characters emotional motivation.

For example think of the difference between Obi-wan and Anakin during the Clone Wars.

Anakin was a serious Morality Character, with the balance between dark and light being a major point for his story. So like when his mom dies, the player made the decision to murder the sandpeople in the face, knowing darn well he was getting a pile of Conflict for it. Ultimately it was pretty obvious he was gonna fall tot he Darkside, so the GM had a campaign ending option with that in mind.

By comparison Obi pretty much always made the right choice every time. There was a odd episode or two, but really the odds of Obi-wan falling to the Darkside was essentially nil. Honestly, morality didn't matter for him because his player was running him like a conventional Jedi. On the other hand, with the Clone War raging, Obi had a heck of a lot of responsibility to both the Jedi and the Republic. Furthermore how he performed directly related to the resources and respect he'd get. For Obi-wan, Duty was actually a better fit.

So, talk with the players and find out what they have in mind, then work with them to apply the mechanic that will benefit them and the game as a whole.
