CR-90 Missile Boat

By Salsashark, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Everyone,

I have a team epic tournament coming up and we want to run a CR-90. I heard there is a version with missiles that is really good. Now that harpoon missiles are out it may be even better. Does anyone know what the best load out is for a missilevette?

Thanks!

Can't point you in the complete direction sadly, but I will say that you will probably want to look into squeezing the Maul crew on, seeing as you can use his ability for rerolls all you want with every shot with no worry about stress.

  • Ordnance Tube corvettes are pretty brutal. Their main weaknesses
    • Range - taking a beating at range 4-5 can tip a fight against them before the fight starts
    • The need to manage target locks - Wes Janson, Black One, and now Jam tokens can cripple your ability to actually fire.
    • Taking ordnance tubes means you're not taking Automated Protocols, which may cut into your ability to maintain reinforce tokens.

That warning delivered, they do provide exceptional crowd control. A broadside of harpoons can take a massive chunk out of enemy small and medium ships.

  • CR-90 Corvette (Fore)
    • Tantive IV - extra team and crew slots
    • Weapons Engineer - multiple locks are key to give you a choice of targets
    • Maul - because unlimited rerolls to hit are awesome
    • Harpoon Missiles
    • Harpoon Missiles
    • Sensor Team - lets you set up target locks at long range
    • Ordnance Experts - guidance chips analogue
    • IG-M Thug Droids - Auto-criticals make harpoons amazing
    • Cluster Bombs - Because a range 1 blind spot is something to prepare for.
  • CR-90 Corvette (Aft)
    • Targeting Co-Ordinator - lets you target lock for energy if you lose the front (and your target lock action)
    • Harpoon Missiles
    • Gunnery Team - guidance chip analogue
    • Ordnance Tubes
    • Cluster Bombs

Things to look at including elsewhere in the squad:

  • Jan Ors - add an extra attack die to the CR-90's beefy primary
  • Roark Garnet - make the CR-90 fire at PS12
  • Ezra Bridger - needed to 'unlock' Maul
  • Esege Tukutu - give the CR-90 access to Focus Tokens
  • Targeting Sychroniser - give the CR-90 access to other ship's target locks

Mangus has good info there. There are some other things to think about.

  • Missile CR-90 still doesn't want to be in the thick of things. With it's firing arcs, it likes to broadsides the enemy. That means circling the edges of the fight. Don't let it get stuck in the middle of things as you will have a hard time surviving concentrated fire, even if all your energy goes to your shields each time.
  • There are other options for ordnance. Yes, Harpoon is 4 dice with TL and has the condition card, but other ones do work well. I'm especially thinking of Ion Torpedo. It doesn't allow you to keep the TL and doesn't have native modification, but you can get that through other items. The ability to stop an enemy formation from moving at you is pretty strong. It also allows you to know where all of them are going to be. You can set up even Z-95's to get in R1 out of arc to hit someone. It allows the CR-90 to get away from an enemy formation that is getting too close. It is also good vs. other epic ships as it drains their energy for next turn.
  • If you are worried that you won't have much to fire at from a distance, you can always swap one of the front missiles for an energy weapon, like a Single Turbo Laser. It can hit damage capital ships and anything with less than 3 Agility.

Good luck!

This is just what I was looking for! Thank you! With the tubes on the back can I still fire them out the front? Is there a better option than the missilevette? I had just heard it was good but I am open to other options.

Yes, you can.

Another thing the CR-90 can do is be someone that skirts the edge and fires at long range. You have to get decent at flying it and know that everyone is going to be coming at you. So, you have to build for various upgrades that can boost you forward and ones that can fire at long range (Single Turbo Laser). This lets you blast other epic ships and to hit things with lower agility. You might not think that you can kill an X-wing with a Single Turbo laser, but i've done it.
