An Imperial MSU?

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

This started because I was weary of bringing an ISD and getting out-activated. I’m wondering about ordnance upgrades. The logic was that Demo’s ACM will soften up shields for Arqs attacking at different angles, whereas APT usually leaves shields and allows redirects; opinions on this would be appreciated. JJ allows Concentrate Fire to be used more. The Gozantis get me to 7 activations and provide any needed tokens/squadron commands. Would Opening Salvo be a superior objective choice? It certainly lets the flotillas contribute (APT would then be used over ACM.)

I have run a similar JJ fleet but with 5 activations.

2 Arq, Demolisher, Quasar, Goz and a stronger fighter force of Howl, 4 TIE-I & Zertek boosted by flight controllers on the CVL.

In your fleet I don't think 7 activations helps that much if you have no bid. Drop one flotilla for an extra squadron and an 8-12 point bid. I would also drop TRC for DTT on the non Needa CLs and make the flagship one of these.

That’s an excellent point about activations. I can drop a Gozanti to field 5 fighters and Valen with a 7 point bid, which pretty much guarantees initiative in my area. I’ll admit the TRCs make the Arqs a bit more vulnerable, but I’ve grown quite fond of the combo for raw, ranged damage DTT has a harder time offering.

So this is a personal opinion, but Imperials can definitely bring a nice big MSU fleet if you're ready for it. You can even bring that big Star Destroyer if you want. You'll even get a small bid!

The strategy is to use the Avenger and Demolisher to pincer in an enemy, while your Gozantis handle squadron pushing duty. If your opponent is relying on a particular ship having a given command at any one time, throw the Slicer Tools in to disrupt them (I love throwing Repair or Concentrate Fire onto undamaged small carriers like enemy flotillas).

If you really want to go full-on crazy, you can drop the squadrons and add another Slicer Gozanti for a huge bid and a 6 ship activation advantage.
