Flamethrower VS Deflect

By Andreu, in Star Wars: Legion

We still don't know anything about how the flamethrower from the snowtroopers work but it made me think about the actual AT-RT flamethrower. I could not find this upgrade in full. Does anyone know how it works entirely?

Mainly my inner geek is worried that the deflect mechanic actually works against flames... I hope they had it into account.

The new Veers command card states Immune: Deflect. Maybe the flamethrowers have something similar?

At this stage, it does

I need to reassess spray weapons, if i read that text right that's up to 12 dice with good los on a squad...... As for your inner geek, the hand wavium could be that said hero doges the blast and counters with a weapon attack of their own as it's so close? Either way, letting a force user get that close in the 1st place is really bad juju for the squad on the heroes next activation. I doubt it'll happen often on the table.

Pretty much anyone who gets the Deflect keyword is going to be a Force-user I would think, so it can be rationalized as them simply pushing the fire back with the Force. We see this done in the Gennady Clone Wars cartoons. And if you get that close to Vader, he can use Force Choke to target and kill the flametrooper specifically.

I guess I can settle for this, but I can already see the day were deflect will be used with a non-force user... Don't get me wrong, I value gameplay over "realism" but some fluff is always welcome.

Thank you for the link!

Maybe. It feels a little too much like the counter keyword from armada, which means we may see it on other elite units

We might, although Counter started on generics and their particular unique variants. The only non Force user I can see even possibly getting Deflect as long as the game stays GCW is Sabine, with the Darksaber. And then I hope they just use it as a really good melee attack, without Deflect. They do usually keep thematics pretty well and I'm not sure what besides a lightsaber Deflect could be used to represent.

Not really counter would use attack dice

Given armada uses no defense dice, why? ( other than to be convoluted and unecessary)

Because counter is an attack that happens whenever you are attacked. Deflect requires a doge token to be spent and for you to roll a surge. It also gives a defensive surge conversion so it protects you as well. Counter is just an attack

What are counter measures then?

I mean counter as in the armada keyword that lets you attack an enemy who attacks you even if you die

Keep in mind that every ability we've seen so far has been written as a keyword. Luke's Jump, Vader's Master of the Force 1, Veers' Inspire 1, etc.

We can certainly consider the possibility we'll see those abilities in the future - Master of the Force 2 on Sheev, perhaps? - but I'm skeptical that something like Deflect will end up sprinkled around.

And besides, they could give a unit some sort of Counter Attack keyword independent of Deflect, that wasn't based on spending a defense token and rolling a surge, if that was the design goal.
