X-Wings in legion?

By williamprice007, in Star Wars: Legion

Question is do you guys think that x wings and other smaller fighters (eg. tie fighters) would just be to large to have in legion, even as like titanic, expensive, one off units

Think they would ne cool, if not practical. But they’re still more practical than an at-at

the only way that they would work is like most planes do in WWII games, they would show up for a round as an airstrike, and then get removed after the attack was done.

Too big and too fast to be used as on-table normal units, but i'd love to see rules for strafing and bombing attacks for sure.

Off hand, too big too fast. They'd be easier to represent as a playable card or some other kind of effect. Just the feeling I get.

That said, they would sell, even to people who aren't up to playing Legion and just wanted to make the model. And 40k has made a dozen and a half moves (some good, some not so much) to get flyers in the game, mostly because people want them.

I've got mine for landing base terrain and such. TIE fighters can at least "hover" like VTOLs

40K flyers are exactly what I DON'T want in Legion. They don't act anything like Star Wars fighters do in any source, and they are horrible for game balance quite often.

I'd rather have none at all than see an X-Wing weirdly fly in slow circles over a tiny (for an aircraft) area of ground.

Yeah I would much rather see them flesh out the existing repulsor vehicles. The rebel freerunner looks pretty awesome I think.

Playable Skimmers, yes. Playable Fighters? No. But they can be great terrain.

What scale would be best for terrain?

Something else that might be cool could be to integrate an x wing miniature game with legion. Have an objective spot on the x wing table that represents the legion battlefield. Then you could have your fighters make attack runs on it

People have set up campaigns using Armada, X-Wing and IA. I am sure they will change it up and add Legion in there. I could see 2 Fleets trying to obtain an item/area of a planet and racing to the system in their fleets, trying to make planet side in their squads to race to the objective on the ground, all forces at each level based on what is destroyed along the way. I'll see what the standard campaign designers come up with.

I want this to happen! Looks awesome

I think it's a pretty sweet design. Reminds me of hammers slammers. It appears in Star wars galactic defense which is considered canon.

What about U-Wings and that Imperial TIE gunship (from rebels). They act as a transport and then as gunships with the side gunners. So not strafing like fighters but providing close air support while hovering/circling

“Gunship”style flyers would work much better, absolutely. I could definitely get on board with a U-Wing doing its AC-130 impression :D

I would prefer to keep the flyers out of the game and keep them to cards similar to the Veers command card. I don't mind for grav vehicles. I'm not so sure that troop transports are really needed. The movement tools, even troops can cover a good bit of distance with the double moves.

:/ flyers are already in the game though.

Barely. T-47s are no x-wings.

*shrugs* they're still an aerial unit regardless

X-Wings seemed to work fine at Maz's castle/drinking hole. They picked off ground units just fine.

I agree with this. The worst part of having aircraft is that inevitably you have to have anti-air units to counter them. Then everyone gets stuck either bringing obligatory planes to counter the other planes or wasting points on your list for with anti-air units. Besides if you want to play with those types of units there's a whole game for it already in Xwing.

The t-47 is an air unit but it's like a sopwith camel compared to the x-wing which is like a p51 mustang. The t-47 is vulnerable to infantry fire. Also there is a difference in weaponry. T-47 s were unable to penetrate atat armor but x wings blew through in a few shots.

If you want a model of one bandai makes a great 1-48th model that is about as close as you can get to the scale.

If you want to add a ground game to x-wing Check out the many fan rules sets and the great lines of 10mm (drop zone) and 6mm figures (GHQ Micro Armour)

I would rather them focus on personnel units and not pile on the vehicles. The scale just isn't there. However they did put the air speeder in, so we will see other air units.
