Keeper of Dreams, Mind Breaker

By johnny shoes, in CoC General Discussion

Marius reviews the new spoiler. He gives an up front assessment. The card looks wicked. But it's also a bit rickety.

F109 Keeper of Dreams, Mind Breaker - Hastur unique villainous creature, monster, independant Cost 3 Skill 3 TTA. exhaust to choose character to lose willpower or opponent discards random from hand.

Hand discard is mean, especially add Byakhee Attack, as said. But the feared willpower is mostly of the six agency characters and seven others, including Descendant, the Captain, Kuranes, and Carter. Do they worry you? It's not a mass effect. Opponent has choices. Hastur has other terror options, even two terror for cost 2. Still, the scary pale massive deformed bloody death horse riding its skull army sea has a real ability. And that classic gaunt Hastur coloring.

Most of all, Ryan Barger's illustration is great, and the composition is real nice, and there are like 52 attributes.

i really like this creature, plus throw him in a shub/hastur deck and use ancient guardian and you can really deplete their hand quick unless they allow the willpower to go away.

Frustrated. Can't find the spoiler. Any chance you could make a habit of including a link, Shoes, since you pretty much ALWAYS find 'em first? I'd appreciate it.

The old page was slow to load but at least you didn't miss interesting news. 'Progress', as always, is inevitable.

Thanks, Shoes !

Nice article, Marius !

you could use his ability during their draw phase. if you got them down to no cards and as soon as they got two cards you triggered this, you could really mess up their day. this is looking like an agency hate card for sure too.

I don't think that would work, PJaholic. If triggered just after the draw phase, you opponent will not care that his character has no willpower during the operations phase, as the character will regain willpower before the story phase. He will not consider discarding a card.

hastur has other ways to drive things insane than the terror struggle. you really wont know if the willpower character is better or worse than something they may have drawn but could be worth playing.

You are right, I hadn't thought of that.

I'm trying to follow you guys. You've got Dreamer Breaker. He's got Clarney. He draws two, now has two. Then I'm lost, Who's refresh is coming. What does the existential threat of Hastur do for Agency's Willpower dudes. Lockdown versus lose your will. If you run a willpower deck, 18 agency cards, you're gonna bypass the scary white horse.

I'm trying my best to make sure there is something to read each friday, so keep an eye out on the main page just before the weekend. You might find insane rambling, if you're lucky!

What I understood from PJaholic's response is that your opponent might fear losing a key character's willpower at ANY phase of the turn, while facing a Hastur deck. Therefore he might very well avoid the Mind Breaker's effect by discarding one of his newly-drawn cards.

- - - and I missed the allusion to a 'scary white horse', could you please spell it out for me?

Thanks in advance,

Chick

Nice break down Chick, thanks. The Keeper of Dreams is hard to make out. Is it a giant bloated deformed bloody white horse? That's the allusion.

No offense to the artist, but when I first saw the card art I was immediately reminded of those annoying spongmonkeys made famous by the quiznos commercials.

Which are appropriate when you think about it because both drain your sanity.

Marius, You're my personal Hero !! gran_risa.gif

@Hellfury : I did'nt know about this scary little thing, but it reminds me of my uncle's teeth !

Spongemonkeys?

Another reason to be thankful I don't own a television.

I ate at Quiznos for the first time this week and have no desire to repeat.

Finally, something that removes Willpower for Hastur, even if it's a cycle later. Good to see all our playtest suggestions were not in vain. Just most. partido_risa.gif

Good to see that you are still here to complain about the past like always. Keep up the good work, Sport. partido_risa.gif

I'm here to help and brighten people's day.

Hello Donald,

Based on your thesis that playtesting advice eventually led to Hastur willpower removal, what other dynamics would you hope to see?

Thanks,
