Not thrilled by the storm troopers.

By 1, in Star Wars: Legion

What happened here?

Storm Troopers have habits, some of those habits include standing tall, holding their weapons very casually at low ready, and either shooting from the hip or trying to aim down the sights, legs apart, ready to dive into cover or move forward toward the enemy.

And what do we get in a box of just 7? A Squad leader that looks like he is directing tourists instead of issuing orders in a combat situation, a trooper that is trying to move in one direction while shooting to his right which just comes off as confused and not threatening. You got a trooper running forward in a pose much more similar to what we saw clone troopers doing, arms in full swing, sprinting forward, while actual storm troopers tend to rush forward a bit slower with more careful footing (because the actors couldn't see well, duh). Then you got one trooper with a rifle who looks like he is considering to use it or not, real exciting stuff there. One trooper crouched (which is good) using a weapon I barely see if ever.. (shouldn't he be part of an add-on or special weapons pack for what is primarily an INFANTRY skirmish game?) and then FINALLY you get just ONE trooper doing what we all want, actually aiming and shooting with his blaster.

And you expect us to buy multiple packs of this?

What happened?

If this was a 10 man box you could get away with it by adding more combat poses, but with just seven opportunities you gave us this selection?

You need at least HALF the box with weapons at the ready, firing, the commander in a more tensed up position with his arm outstretched looking like enemy fire is going right over his head in the heat of battle, soldiers shooting wildly from the hip, the guy with the rifle looking like his trying to nail as many targets as he can or covering his buddies, you know COOL stuff that us overgrown kids will go PEW PEW PEW with between dice rolls. what the heck am i going to pew pew here?

FFG get it together and take some screenshots of the original episodes and make poses from that...

They are multi part miniatures. You can pose the arms and in some cases the heads however you like.

If you want to see pics check out the thread titled Spanish legion rulebook

Uh, they are? You sure? They don't look it.

100 percent sure. The arms are separate from the body.

Personally I have no problem with the poses they have shown. They have good depth and don't look like cardboard cutouts. That said you will have some freedom in assembly and it looks like conversions will be pretty easy with these models

Multi part miniatures used to mean you can mix and match different parts to create different poses, but I see that term is now being used as a throw away for miniatures that just require assembly, as your image indicates.

Just because they picture the arms with certain bodies doesn't mean those are the only combinations that work.

No, multi part used to mean your secondary meaning, which then evolved into the 1st and now seems to be regressing back now with the hate directed at cost.

Gotta go with him on that point. Otherwise trooper packs would be 6 body minis with alterative specials

Whatever, point is the poses are not as good as they could and should have been.

I hope FFG release a version 2 in future far future

Every sculpt and pose they've shown so far in this game is absolutely top notch. Best I've seen from FFG. Best Star Wars minis ever. And in the top of all mini figs period.

I have to agree. The sculpt quality on these minis is brilliant. Poses don't really matter that much to me as long as we don't get that one plastic army man holding his rifle over his head. Unless it's a wookie. A wookie can hold his bowcaster over his head all he wants. I'm not going to argue. Seriously though, ffg had to strike a balance with these guys. They have to convey both maneuvering and firing in their miniatures. This is a game that heavily emphasizes movement and mobility in general.

Talk about low standards.... can any of you provide an example of minis that come 'second' to this lot so I can understand what you're talking about?

You talk about movement and mobility, yet the squad leader is stationary, the guy with the rifle is stationary and not even aiming, while another is running in one direction and preparing to shoot in the other, something no trained soldier should be doing in general.

So you have 2 in firing position, 2 running and 3 stationary and that has the emphasis of movement and mobility? Your words don't match what I am looking at. and FYI the guy with the rifle over his head, I assume you are talking about the Tim Mee plastic Army Men, those guys had more action poses than this lot.

Look at Airfix sets, even more recent sets from companies like Ceaser that have real dynamic poses make FFG figures look armature yet you sound like they hit the mark...

Feel free to not buy them then

Don't know what to tell you man. They look great to me. That's the problem with art. It's subjective. Now seeing that your user name is literally a single digit and that 4 of your 7 posts have been spent complaining, I am just going to call troll and bid you adieu.

Lol, so you like them 'because' and I am a troll. Good stuff, thank you for your input.

I added some attachments, two are 1/72 scale and the last are some old Starwars Unleashed sets, look at the dynamic poses, they look like they are in combat, the only criticism I can give is for the clone trooper standing at attention with his weapon held up as it doesn't match the rest of the set.

But you can see clearly the differences, look at the soldier performing the halt hand signal, straight away you know he is a leader of sorts, his head is down a bit, weapon by his side at the ready.

7 men, with those prices, that are core sets you are expected to build up a force out of... if they were made in early 2000's yes they are good, but miniature design has come so far in all scales since then. So call me a troll all you want, I know the difference and when I complain about something I have a good reason to.

Look at the design direction now with the snow troopers.

Now you have many firing their weapons and you have movement, the only complaint I have is with their officer, who is also being dull, standing tall pointing in a direction, seriously is that the only pose they can use for an NCO??

I do like the snow troopers, but I feel the 7 minis a box really limits their impact because we don't have room for other poses, HOWEVER that being said every pose save for the officer is appropriate and useful, so good job with the snow troopers FFG, I'll give credit where it's due.

Ill have to go with subjective as well. All the examples posted above are pretty terrible in my opinion. If you like them, awesome. Go play those games.

So anything that fits the profile of a soldier performing his duties is terrible, and random poses of the in-between are good?

What exactly are you people interested in, heroic poses or depictions of infantry in combat or a mixture of both?

What makes those poses terrible?

I am interested in Star wars legion. I have played a shitload of miniature games. Lord of the rings sbg, 40k, stargrunt ii, WAB, fire and fury, flames of war, bolt action, infinity, frostgrave, and a bunch that I don't remember the name of any more. Legion has by far the highest quality plastic miniatures and most intriguing ruleset of anything I have played. I put miniature detail and paint job far above poses in terms of importance. I have always just converted anything I don't like anyways and so far legion has only given me poses I like. They look like the awesome space opera stormtroopers I want. Not a bunch of **** nato troops. If you want serious sci fi simulation play stargrunt or tomorrows war.

You're also more than welcome to sculpt your own super realistic dynamic real life soldier poses. Would be a lot more productive than what you're currently doing

The point is you are arguing something that is clearly subjective, you are in a forum filled with people who are excited and itching to get their hands on these minis and you seem to want something that is clearly provided by many other games. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish other than register a complaint.
