Wingman tournament format being used at Adepticon this March?

By Ob3ron, in X-Wing

There's a reference to the tournament rules on the FFG site but nothing in any of those docs specifically explains the Wingman format. Anyone with even a good guess as to what is expected? Thanks.

Two ship only, perhaps? Then again, that's pretty much the meta at the moment.

It could be a variation on the hangar bay - where you pick one "permanent" ship, and your others can change around it.

FFG Organized Play is not organized at all...

this has happened too many times to too many gaming companies.. they don’t understand how to pace growth... and don’t understand how to manage success... and it starts to show everywhere. Hopefully FFG can get the wheels back on the cart before things really unravel. But once quality dips too deep, gamers run to the next hotness.

What meta are you looking at?

The Australian nationals, where every single list I faced to was two ships, and I only played against 2 lists with three or more ships - both of which were fairly weak.

The post wave 13 meta is a little blurry, but I think 2 ships are still going to be on top (Kylo + Deci, Dash + Miranda, Dengar + Nym, etc).

I'd be very surprised if that were true... miranda/wookie/+, imp aces, ace/gunboats, trip wookies, quad wookies, imp alpha, trip skurrgs, will all be up there. Also, I really don't see kylo/deci becoming a thing.

Miranda + Wookie + Biggs won the australian nats, coincidentally It's still an outdated build - without Biggs the list folds to any kind of focus fire. Imp aces (except possibly Kylo) have an inherrent vulnerability to bombs, which are still plenty prevalent. Gunboats could be a thing, but they are an exception rather than a rule. Trip Wookies can be beaten by a good list and player, just like FSR2 could. Imperial alpha is a thing, but they're typically 2 alphas and a little filler. Triple Scurrgs can again be beaten by strong play - or TLT spam.

Kylo certainly will be a thing. It's just a matter of what wingmen are best for him. Chirpy gives him a high-PS wingman to dish out the crits, and if Kylo is in his PTL Adv. Sensors form he's pretty much untouchable after he takes everyone below PS 9.

Except Quickdraw, as well, who's easily the most common and effective Imperial ship.

No idea what the wingman format is, and it’s the only event I wont be a part of. I’m in both hyperspace qualifiers, the hanger bay and the main event.

Wish I knew more about it.... and wish I had the time to play before heading back home.

OKay, maybe the wording has changed but here is the description. This may be more an Adepticon thing than FFG:

A focus of AdeptiCon has always been on social team formats and Star Wars: X-Wing is no exception! The Star Wars: X-Wing Team Tournament is back, so grab your wingman and report for assignment! Look for some unique and fantastic prizes for this alternate format.

Each Team must build a combined squad using the Star Wars: X-Wing Team Tournament Addendum. Teams must use the same squads, damage decks, and obstacles for the duration of the tournament. Complete tournament rules, FAQ, and errata can be found on the Fantasy Flight Games website.

This tournament will consist of 3 Swiss rounds. Each round will last 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Team Event: This Team Event consist of 2 people forming a single team. Only the Team Captain is required to purchase this event ticket. The team registration fee covers both players on a team. Both team members are required to purchase an AdeptiCon Badge.

I went to Adepticon 2 years ago and played in a team tournament Sunday, IIRC it was 200 points and each player had to control roughly 1/2 the squad. You could talk, etc, but it was played on a 3x3 and the regular one damage deck and 3 obstacles. They did a regular swiss style and everyone that finished 3-0 won something (we took 3rd and got some customizeable cubes). It was a ton of fun!

It wasn't put on by FFG official, but by a local shop so the prizes weren't the system open stuff but rather kit and other random prizes. Edit - we won modcubes! Had forgotten what those things were. I still use them.

That 200 points would make it a much easier to handle "team" event. Wish they were more clear about that. My proposed wingman is strictly into Rebel, so we'd have to split up along those lines. With 200 points he could fly Ghost/Phantom II and something else; I could fly Falcon and something else. Sounds like a lot of fun and nice to see another avenue to prizes.

Thanks for responding. Likely we'll be there this March. too.
