Resistance Bomber

By tangoraven, in X-Wing

Wave 12/13 has dropped for a few weeks and I hoped many people have actually played some games with most of the new goodies.

For those who have played the Resistance Bomber, is it good or awesome or craptastic?

PS. Full disclosure, I haven't gotten my mitts on the new goodies yet. I come from a Jakku-like wasteland where our Disney overlords and FFG catspaws refuse to acknowledge the existence of X-Wing players there so I have to live vicariously through you guys. You lucky bastards!

Crimson Specialist is quite good, the other two named pilots aren't. Possible use for generics, but don't want to drop the cash on them to try it.

Playing with no, But playing against I can say they are better than expected. Running double or triple in loose formation with the title and advanced optics makes for tanky bombers. They are also sitting on 12 health a piece so they aren’t easy to take down. Add in trajectory sim and deflective plating and you create a large area of denial.

Thermal detonator chucking Crimson Spec with Nym throwing Boomlets is definitely good stuff.

its not bad by any means, but i'd say its a mid-level hit where its fully playable and all that but i dont see it winning any tournaments as of right now.

Casual game night, play away.

It has potential, but it's like that annoying kid with all the cool toys. You like what he has, but you'd much rather be hanging out with someone else.

Thats exactly my list, adding an Ezra Sheathipede with Tactician and R3-A2 and its a pretty good list which i really enjoy to play so far.

Crimson Specialist, Nym, and a Blue Squadron Pathfinder tore apart my double Silencer-TIE Fighter build, but that was to be expected.

Crimson specialist is good and one of the most fun of the cumbersome big ships.

Trying to place a bomb on the base that'll be within range 1 of where you think the enemy will end up while also being out of range 1 of your own ships is a really fun exercise of spatial awareness.

I utilized a lot of self bumps to keep this thing in position and it's just a really interesting thought exercise. However, I don't think it's competitive--the burden of execution on the owning player is just too high.

Is bombing actually all that fun? I only see bad bombing runs locally.

Bombs are really only fun for one of the two players, but need to be tried out so you can learn how to avoid them.

I think bombing can be fun.

It's not the pre-nerf Nym of consequence free bumping and putting bombs wherever you please.

It's not backed up by the auto damage of Sabine that can ruin an experience.

Crimson specialist at PS 4 has flexibility of placement, but not to the same degree as Nym and certainly not with the same amount of information as a PS 10.

If you want to use, or at least threaten to use the trajectory simulator, you need to not only correctly guess where the enemy will be this turn, but also have an idea of where they'll be next turn as well. There's enough guesswork and dice variance that it isn't nearly as bad as bombers of olde.

So, yes, I think it's fun.

Pre Advanced Slam Nerf Triple Ks was a lot of fun. One of my favorite lists.

I've been rocking the generic along side a cheap miranda and a cheap experimental, prox mine warden.
So far, I would say it is good. Not fantastic, but defintely good. 12 HP, turret and bombs is good for what it costs.
It is pretty hard to maneuver with it though, I've have had best success going for the joust, where either 2 things happen:
1) They joust it, trying to kill it before it goes nuts with sabine powered bombs
2) They completely ignore it, giving it time and space to do its thing

If they joust it, chances are that it will create a huge ***********, where they do not want to be in front of it, nor behind it, but they have to do something, giving my K-wings time to swoop around.

With my list it is 30 HP on 3 turreted ships that can bomb (miranda can't but, I would rather like C3PO on her, than a bomb on her to be honest), where the B/SF can deal with generics, the warden can bomb aces, and Miranda is the late game piece, soaking damage, surviving, and if not focused, just goes ham with her TLT/primary.

Interestingly enough, people focus down the B/SF most of the time.. I have bomblets on it, so it might be to lock-down any 'infinite value'.

I have two of them ATM (bought one and got the other as a gift) and I like them so far. They are quite challenging to use and I really think having a few more Resistance ships would help them out. I also think the uniques should have gotten the elite upgrade slot too.

Note: I think challenging ships are a good thing.
