BattleBlog: Waiqar meet the Uthick on a field of fire

By Xquer, in Runewars Miniatures Game

This is my first game against Uthick, and a while since I last played Waiqar. I'm just skimming over a lot of details for narrative sake and because I'm writing from memory.

Having been burned by the lost of unstable runes and Maro not able to do anything, I'm trying out Violent forces with Fortuna die. This means I can't easily use him to build up my two sets of archers, but that's okay, the plan is to use the archers more as blight batteries, and with two units it's like I have a reroll.

Also as a change, I've stuck Maro out forward without much care in the world since my scouts have reported that all the Uthick's ranged units are out for picnic. Hey you, Mr. Profane banner dude? at ease, let's slot in some lingering dead with the cost savings.

We're playing with the Uthick deployment, which is actually really working against me. I've shoved my archers and Maro up front with the deathknights to block, but we're all bunched up and we're staring down at two groups of fleshrippers who are a bit too close for comfort.

There's fire off to the sides, nothing's close by and I don't see any reason to have concern here.

Rippers have charged forward, one of them jumping into a burning building. I'm standing still hoping to get a shot, but we're just out of range.

We impact in round two, that Dead Sprint really helping to close that gap. I throw down some death gauntlets and start shooting arrows; no surges. One of my archers questions if it's okay to shoot when our own units are engaged, I ask back wondering where all my blight is: no more questions are raised.

Unstable runes at four and a fire token easily in range one, that's one dead tray of archers, that's fine, it's fine I say, I brought them for the blight. Any moment now.... aaaany moment I'll roll all those sweet sweet surges. Still waiting...

The second set of rippers have made it to the north, trying to get a flank. I stare hard at those flesh rippers, easily in range and unengaged, time to combo my support lancer and deathcaller I announce. My opponent raises the question of where my simultaneous orders is. I look first at my lingering dead, and then back into my opponents eyes; I like to think he could see the well of despair. I settle on a single blight... hooray....

Greedily, I force the first set of rippers to flee in terror. There were probably better options available, but having them charge towards the burning wagon just fills me with joy. My archers on the other hand, now have no target to shoot at, whoops!

Maro on the other hand, is going to town. The double hits modifier with the added brutal is just that for the rippers. Add in the extra lethal from the burning wagon and all that extra health starts vanishing.

Freed up, I reform both my archers and knights to handle the flanking rippers in the north. As it turns out, this just means my archers meet their demise head on. My remaining deathknight however get an okay blow and cheerily announce deaths grasp will be transferred over. My opponent asks when I readied the gauntlets I exhausted back in turn two; ah despair, my only reliable friend.

Archers down! DeathKnights dead! Maro out of position! Reanimates flanked! Fire just about everywhere! Okay, this is no one's fault. We collectively failed together. As a teamwork perspective we all pulled our weight in failing.
