EDIT: I was not aware of the FAQ on minefield mapper and extra munitions, so disregard this list. But if you want to dream, imagine a world where you could drop ALL the bombs prior to the start of the game, and shed a tear for this dream, because it is dead.
I just got back into X-Wing for the first time in a year or so this week, and while trying to catch up on the current meta, I've also been experimenting with squadron lists. I don't expect this list would be competitive at all, but it's too funny not to share, so here goes. I absolutely have not played this list yet but can't wait to because it's hilarious to me.
- 2 * Rho Squadron Veteran + Crack Shot + XG-1 title + LRS + HLC + linked battery (32/64)
- 1 * Cutlass Squadron Pilot + minefield mapper + extra munitions + LRS + harpoon missiles + cluster mines/conner nets *2 (35)
Basically what we have here is a tweak on the GUNBOAT alpha strike. The tweak is bombs. Specifically, four conner nets/cluster mines (I kind of want to go with whichever takes up more space, but I don't have templates in front of me to compare), deployed prior to the start of the game. This is all very theoretical, but, in theory, clever asteroid and mine placement could disrupt enemy formations and/or channel them towards a specific point for an engagement favorable to the Imperial player. The Punisher drops all of its bombs after deployment, then becomes an alpha strike, then a blocker. We get almost maximum mileage out of extra munitions here, with its two points giving us a total of four bombs AND two Harpoons. LRS on all ships sets up an alpha strike of two target locked, focused, linked battery HLCs, and a target-locked, focused Harpoon.
What do you guys think? Totally mad?
