But people underestimate the usefulness of animals as transport for troops. It's easier to fuel a unit of horses, they rarely have mechanical issues, they can travel over terrain that would stop a tank brigade in it's tracks, they can dismount for urban/mountain/forest/whatever terrain....it's surprisingly useful.

I see your point on some aspects. ie the factual ones.
However there is a reason why people drive cars and not ride horses (or camel)! I think you have missed the fact that you need to feed these beasts and remove their poop, and store both out of the way.

In a military situation animals are a lot less to maintain the a mechanical vehicle needing fuel. That and they are a food source if ... well you know what I mean.

I can't wait to see that ability on a commander:
Sacrifice a mounted unit to restore 2 health to a different wounded unit.
So far it seems that they are treating mount and rider as one unit. But a tauntaun sleeping bag would be pretty awesome.
....lol......really look forward to mounts!!!.....maybe can be both?.....(a) soldier and mount; and then (b) dismounted soldier?...with some action to dismount the soldier. But the current speeder bike is mounted.... oh well....
on different note....if rebels have the tauntaun...then the stormies need the dewback!

I think it would be awesome with both Tauntauns and dewbacks.
Also, Jawa hypetrain! I dont know when or how but if this becomes a thing along with ewoks or tusken raiders with banthas it would be THE DREAM

....cavalry is defined by what???.........fast, shock, mobility.....if true, than we have that in modern armies....heck, the amerikans still have the 1st CAV Division... ...maybe cavalry is not dead, but re-defined?
