The Price of a Legion Commander

By Hepitude, in Runewars Miniatures Game

So... the first commander expansion for Legions is coming out https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/12/20/command-from-the-front/

He's $12 bucks compared to Runewars $25, but only has one figure. Do you guys think the extra Runewars sculpt, plus some terrain makes a $12 difference? I wonder if FFG was originally planning on including more with Legion commanders, but based on Runewars feedback decided on a lower price point?

I think the objective, deployment card, terrain, and two sculpts make it s satisfying purchase for $25, but I haven't had a chance to see what is in the Legion pack. Adding new deployments, terrain, and objectives is a small thing that can have a big impact on keeping the game fresh, which is why I value them pretty highly.

Economy of scale is likely also a factor, and the fact these sculpts are unlikely to be new, could just be scaled from the multitude of other games.

If it was a massive Jabba the Hutt commander, I'd bet that plastic would cost more :)

This

They have so many places to draw the sculpts and card art from at this point

Any clues as to whether Veers os a multi-part model? I suppose we can assume he is. Even still, the Runewars hero boxes likely have more molds per box than Veers.

I don't even know what a veers is.

It's a man with a boring paintjob. We don't care about those.

What do you think the odds are that Runewars minis gets repriced? I'd call them very, very long.

But I always thought that Runewars was over-priced by 10-20%. Maybe a strategy to keep what was supposed to be their flagship fantasy line going?

Compared to Warmachine for example, Runewars units are much cheaper.

Rune Wars hero £17 for two figures plus extras. Age of Sigmar hero £48 for a single figure. Rune Wars does not seem over costed to me.

Russian beer

I’m bother with getting IA figures for $10 and now this for $13. Same amount of product - one figure and some cards. Granted the sculpt may be better, but it doesn’t look like it’s any more than two pieces max, so marginal improvement over IA figures.

I wonder how many IA sculpts are going to be re-purposed for Legion or how many were planned for IA that will not be transferred over.

The legion and IA sculpts are different sizes, not sure how much that makes a difference price wise....

What do we have over Legion's

1. Deployment and Objective cards, Legion not that we know of.

2. A large base model with scenic base and small model, or a colossal Figure, Legion 1 small mini.

3. Tokens, Legion of course.

4. Dial, Legion 1 Order token.

make sense Legion cost less.

Mounted heroes are pretty awesome. What feels oddly priced to me in the Rune Wars range are the infantry command sets.

But there are a whole lot of considerations when pricing stuff. It’s usually folly to try and reverse engineer it.

One of those is marketing and product line uniformity. FFG is pretty consistent with, "in this game line, this type of product costs X and this type of product costs Y". Most of the time.

Card art yes, sculpts, no.

I always thought given the 4 sculpts and likely lower sales than other expansions they made sense.

I’ve not played a full scale game yet, but are the command set figures/upgrades particularly crucial in game? I can’t really imagine needing a box per unit or anything like that.

They can be key to synergy and strategy in some lists. It doesn't seem uncomon to need two packs of them, but you are correct - you wouldn't need one per unit unless you were running a very specialized list.

I found the command packs are what opened the flavour of the game, it was very linear before that.
