Vessery Rhos the (Gun)boats

By Tom1132, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys :)

My idea is to basically set up Vessery's ability with the Long Range Scanners on the gunboats (they can use their Linked Battery for their re-rolls if need be). Vessery fires first with the Tractor Beam and reduces agility and attacks *again* with his primary; while the Rho's hammer away at the target with follow-up HLC's.

My only hangup is whether to downgrade to Nu's and outfit Vessery with Expertise or an Ion Cannon.

What do we think? Is it worth losing the Crack Shots and buffing Vessery instead?

TIE/D (0)

Rho Squadron Veteran (21)

I'd swap Adaptability for A Score To Settle. When attacking the Debt target, you'll have that soft-focus, and can get both focus and reroll types of mods on both attacks, and have a token for defense. It'd kind of like Expertise, but not really.

Nus would probably work fine, but I feel like that puts more eggs into the Vessery basket. 2xNu + Expertise frees up four total points after buying Expertise, if I'm mathing right. I'm not really sure how to spend it. Seismic Torpedos wouldn't be terrible, and there might be a niche use for Flechette Torpedos to put stress on someone who hates stress. Maybe just a Shield or Hull Upgrade for Vessery.

On the Rhos, I might consider Lighting Reflexes. Your initial burst will be smaller, but you'll have a stronger potential follow up, with all your ships able to do a turn-around.

I really like this team you have here. I would support the idea of getting Expertise on the Colonel - you don't exactly need the EPTs, so you could use Nus instead. I'm always hesitant to fly the Alphas without a cheap canon to be able to fire post-SLAM, but sometimes, I can imagine it is worth it.
