Original GenCon promos

By Darth Chump, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hi all, I just picked up a full art Rey promo from Gen Con 2016. The quality is not like regular cards, it almost looks like some Chinese "proxy" Magic cards I've ordered in the past.

Can anyone tell me what the promos should look like?

Thanks!!!

I believe promos are printed ‘in-house’ by FFG - either on a card printer they own, or one they rent locally. As such, the cardstock and quality are different from the actual cards, which are printed in China.

The colours are usually a little bit different on FFG in-house cards, but it’s a subtle difference. Apart from the feel, that’s the only noticeable difference between the two. If it feels wrong - too similar to a normal card - and the colours on the back are identical, you may have a fake. But as far as I know there’s no reliable blue-filament test for Destiny cards.

Thanks for the reply. The card does not have the same feel as normal cards and the cut is not as smooth, so I guess that a good thing (sounds counterintuitive).

Imagine, someone printing counterfeit promos...

I know this isn't perfect (especially for questions on the feel of the card), but this link has a list of all the promotional material that I'm aware of...including pics:

That is a great reference.

Thanks

Yeah, if it feels like a cheap knock off, then you got the real thing sadly. FFGs in house printing in the past has been rather sad. They recently upgraded so some kind of printer that does thin plastic. We won't get that for in deck cards but they may do character/battlefield promos with that process. I'm sure standard promo cards will continue to feel like cheap knock offs.

I would be more concerned you got a fake if it doesn't feel like a cheap knock off.
