Two-Wing Starwings

By Glyph, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

I've come up with a list that uses 4 Alpha-class Starwings in a two wave format:

Nu Squadron Pilot PS2 [18]
> Long-Range Scanners [0]
> XG-1 Assault Configuration [1]
> Linked Battery [2]
> Heavy Laser Cannon [7]
Total : 28

Nu Squadron Pilot PS2 [18]
> Long-Range Scanners [0]
> XG-1 Assault Configuration [1]
> Linked Battery [2]
> Tractor Beam [1]
Total : 22

Nu Squadron Pilot PS2 [18]
> Long-Range Scanners [0]
> XG-1 Assault Configuration [1]
> Linked Battery [2]
> Heavy Laser Cannon [7]
Total : 28

Nu Squadron Pilot PS2 [18]
> Long-Range Scanners [0]
> XG-1 Assault Configuration [1]
> Linked Battery [2]
> Tractor Beam [1]
Total : 22

Total : 100

The main idea of this is to have a Tractor Wing and HLC Wing in each wing. Both will acquire target locks on a ship they're hunting while out of range 3, and focus on the subsequent turns until they engage. The Tractor Wing will tractor their prey and hopefully reduce its agility by 1 for the HLC Wing to take advantage of its 4 attack dice, focus, and target lock...maybe slinging their prey on an asteroid for good measure. The following turn, they both SLAM far away to be able to take another LRS target lock and turn around for another attack run or to prey on the other wing's target. What do you guys think?

The LRS really isn't needed when you have Linked Battery. I'd either ditch it to keep LB or ditch LB for Flechette/Tractor. In fact, which I am slightly terrified by the whole list, I might slightly alter it - give 2 Nus XG-1, Tractor Beams, Adv. SLAM, and HLC, then throw in a TIE blocker. Yes, it is a lot more expensive, but it makes target priority harder, and gives each of those Alphas a more frightening countenance.

I like the Long Range Scanners, It lets you get the heck out of dodge and then take you TL while you get sett up for your next attack run. However, lose the Linked batteries for maybe flack cannons. Then you have an attack with 3. I find that in my meta that 3 dice attacks from non-ace ships rarely do more than one damage anyway.

I quite like the long range scanners, and it costs 0 points... so the question then is why wouldn't you have it.

In fact i think you might even be able to drop linked batteries. That's 8 points you can save: enough to go for a 3rd HLC.

Of course i would still run as many tractor beams as possible here, which if my math is right means:...

1 Nu with HLC,

2 Nu's with HLC & tractor

1 Nu with tractor.

I know this might disrupt slightly the plan to fly them as two wing pairs, but you get so much more stopping power
