Lets bring back the b-wing

Hello everybody

I loved to play the b-wing, but in the meta now it is extincted. So I though we maybe could we come to a good working list together. And I know b- wings are very bad nowedays but I want to try it, for the greater good, for the Rebellion.


 

Probably just want to play to their old strengths. I think BBBBZ used to be a solid list because of sheer amount of health and guns pointing at your opponent. It probably feels pretty mundane, though. I think that trying to figure some squads with two or three torpedo carriers with Guidance Chips should be solid since B-Wings will throw extra crits onto their torps, but it gets expensive. You could also start throwing Linked Battery on to mildly improve their damage output.

Mostly, I'd just say put it on the table, regardless of the meta. Play it because its fun. I put 2 TIE Interceptors on the table the other day and thrashed with them, so just because something's not in the competitive meta doesn't mean that you can't fly it successfully, especially in a casual setting.

If the Bwing could take Primed Thrusters, I'd totally play 4 LB/PT blues.

They probably need a title, and possibly an errata to the E2 mod that lowers the equipped crew cost by 1 or 2 and allows a second mod.

Actually, the Tie advanced title on B's would pretty much be awesome.

That k-turn still makes me cringe. Funny enough, I think a great B-Wing fix is the Starviper Mk2 title. The way it gyros those angled Barrel Rolls make more sense than on the Starviper.

Every now and then Ten Numb with Plasmas and Guidance Chips is fun. Expensive, but fun.

I think Keyan Farlander with HLC, Rage, BwingE2, and Inspiring Recruit is good.

Rage for focus and rerolls and 2 stress. Pilot ability to change focus to hits and remove 2 stress. A fully modded HLC every turn.

If in this meta, b wings you choose to explore, only pain will you find

tbh I think B-wing best has a place now in the Ace as opposed to the blues. Kinda funny considering that the Aces were generally considered overcosted and the generics the way to go back in the day.

Now however, we have things that can keep the Ace alive way better. Biggs is still really good. But also, we have Lowrick now and selflessness. And other things to draw fire like Jess Pava, mitigate damage for a turn or two like Rex, or prevent modification like ShuttleBug Fenn Rau.

Long story short, I'm not saying you should run a fully loaded 50 point Keyan or Ten Numb, But, I think there is a place for Rage Keyan or Mangler Cannon Ten Numb in a squad --and also will probably be totally underestimated by many players how much damage these guys can push through.

I think it's fun (although not worth it!) to fly Ten with Veteran Instincts (Or Deadeye), Ion Torpedoes, and Guidance Chips. Along with Lt. Blount, this is another way to guarantee that an ordinance effect sticks.

Linked Battery is pretty solid on B-wings that often need to switch targets making FCS suboptimal. No obvious choice for where to put the extra point if you want to run 4 B's. Maybe pair a couple of B-wings with a couple T-70's. It's not great but I could have some fun flying this:

As far as "fixes," my pet idea is a title. "Gyro-Stabilization: After executing a red maneuver on your dial, if you did not overlap a ship, you may rotate your ship 180 degrees." Gives the B-wing a 4K, 3 S-loops, and a crazy sort of 1 S-loop using the hard turn maneuver. And a red 2 straight I guess.

As far as fixes go, I've shown this one off i pretty much eveery thread on the subject, but here we go again.

I think 4 blues with Linked battery will give cannon nu’s a run for their money. That sweet 2k...

B-Wings are why I like different tournament formats. I brought a couple of B-Wings (with Luke and a Snap/Juke A-WIng) to an Original Trilogy Tournament and went undefeated with them.

I would like to see a fix, but in the meantime use them for tournaments like that.

ok maybe I’m a little kidding. But try it. You won’t regret it.

Sorry but nothing from Wave 1-6 is coming back save for the Y-wing until the TLT nerf then it is never coming back.

There is just too much accretion in the current system without a 2nd edition which address such issues. All the ships are obsolete, have poor dials now that better maneuvers have came out, and cost too much for what they could bring.

Yes. I was referring to the -4 pt cost adjustment.

You'd have to fix the dial to make it viable and even then its iffy because of power creep. The 2K means you're can't K-turn with anything in front of you and you're going to have a very predictable maneuver the next turn given the lack of greens.

If I wanted to do banks and 2 hards all day, I'd fly an Azituck instead with a 180 arc, reinforce action and 2 crew slots.

Use AdvSensors to barrel roll and avoid 2K blocks, and Linked Battery to get a reroll instead of FCS. Also allows you to Focus before a 2k when you don't have to avoid a block so you can K-turn, have a focus and a reroll.

E2 should so be a free mod if not a title. I'm seeing Ten Numb mentioned a lot in this thread, and I'm not surprised: auto damage is very helpful for a ship that dies easy. So how do you keep it alive? With co-ordinate and a free focus.

If Ten rolls an eye he is attacking with 3 crits at range 1 or 2. Only one is auto damage but still.

Which makes the chassis at an awful starting price of 27pts. You can't even fiel 4 of those, that's sad.
