GVR: General Forum Questions

I read the EotE FAQ and have been following the forums for a while, and I have a few questions:

1- Are there any particular subjects/threads that have been repeatedly debated that provoke anger, resentment, or controversy that I should avoid?

2- My campaign work in progress in going to be using material from all three of the core FFG SW RPG line (EotE, AoR, F&D), is this the main forums where I can converse about all three of these source materials?

3- Is there a list/subject thread that gets into details about differences in the FFG SW RPG line and the new Disney Canon?

4- Is there a list/subject thread that gets into details about what starships/vehicles are present in the new Disney Canon circa 19BBY-0BBY timeline?

5- Are there any “unwritten” rules or best practices that are particular to these FFG forums that are useful to know?

Thanks in advance for any replies! ?

Clarification: The subject of "Disney Canon" is just a way of saying "what is the current established lore" , so I can use it as a baseline for my research.

Ya know what, you ask a legitimate polite question and aren't insulting to anyone, I wouldn't worry yourself about whether or not any of us dummy faces gets our feelings hurt.

Ask away I say....

Threads about the Morality system and Space combat, tend to pop up all the time, and can get heated, especially the Morality ones. I won't say avoid them entirely, but wear some flame retardent clothing because they can become...heated. Though to be fair, the level of forum toxicity on this site is WAY less than at other sites I've seen. It's still there, without a doubt, but it's by far the exception, not the norm.

Technically no, you would be best advised, in my opinion at least, to use all 3 of the forums, each dedicated to a specific game line, and tailor your questions accordingly, based on source material. There is always some bleed through of course, people asking fleet battle questions in Force and Destiny forum, instead of Age of Rebellion, and it's not a big deal, but you are more likely to get a quicker response, that is actually relevant to your question, if you post them accordingly.

No list, they just pop up from time to time as people ask them. Though really there isn't much different, as the FFG team was in constant contact with Lucas Studios about what is approved for publication. So they've made a concerted effort to keep things in line with the stuff. If you are talking about the Force Awakens+ stuff, they haven't published anything there, so it's all fan creation for specific tables.

1- Morality, Space and vehicle combat, docking clamps, scale adjustment, and the XP value of "Jedi" are all going to get good.

Short answer to each is:

Morality is like (and can be interchangeable with) obligation and duty. They only really work if a) it's used as a mechanical means of communication between the player and the gm leading to b) the players and the GM are both willing to actually use it with the campaign and Characters and play as such. If not, no harm ditching it.

Space combat is weird. It can work, but it can take a little while to get used to it as it really needs that narrative spice. Genesys actually made some changes due to the weirdness.

Docking clamps are handwaved, allowing a freighter to carry one or two Fighters with no Special hardware or penalty.

Scale adjustment: Scale is 1:10. Exceeding a players WT does not kill them, only a Crit result will kill them. You can only go to double a characters WT and then you stop counting. Vehicle weapons, at the GMs discretion, can get a +50 to crit table rolls vs people. So basically, you take a hit, you're down. Shooting a personal weapon at a vehicle does mean you need to do 10 damage (after armor) to do 1 point of hull trauma. Crits only requires you exceed the Armor, so most personal weapons intended for antivehicle work are about crit-kill the target, not HTing it.

Jedi XP depends on what you think. They can work at knight Level if you really want, but it is really all about your certain point of view. So some say 150, some 300, some 1000.

2). The EotE forum gets the most traffic it seems, and the GM sub-forum

3) not really, but it's an RPG, canon is what the GM says it is.

4) Don't really need one. Disney's not worrying about ships and weapons. Only storyline. So with the exception of Mcguffin stuff like the suncrusher, no problems.

5) Be cool.

All forums have their "written" and "unwritten" rules and social norms, I just like to ask what they are from the active community to save time and effort. :)

I have two of the three core forums active (still haven't opened a tab for FaD) and I am concerned that a lot of posters in the EotE forums (which seems to be the most active by thread count) are not also active in the other forums. I can try to keep some posts specific (force stuff in the FaD forums), but I have a few questions that are multi/cross core rule book related.

I haven't checked the GM sub-forum, will do later.

Edited for grammar, cause I am tired and making mistakes.

Disney might not be worried about a timeline, but I am. :)

I am aiming to start my campaign in 9BBY, and knowing what ships/vehicles are present at that time (and shortly afterwards) is a key point in my campaigns development/research phase.

When I was using Legends/Expanded Universe information it was easy to keep track of when things where developed and deployed, with the new Disney canon, not so much. I now know that A-Wings and B-Wings for example where deployed much earlier then was previously established; and I still haven't figure out when X-Wings where fielded in the new timeline.

Let Rebels be your guide.

Sort of.

Remember the Rebellion is an Alliance, not a unified force. So what one Rebel group has doesn't have to match what others have. One group may have X-wings, another might be happy to have a pair of v-19s and a potato gun.

So what we do know is things like the B-wing is a prototype that doesn't match the production model, A-wings are available, TIE interceptors are not. Y-wing and X-wings are around. TIE Defenders are in early production. AT-DP'S are in use as are AT-ATs, but we've only seen AT-ATS kinda sorta. Interdictor cruisers are new...

yeah

Heated arguments are pretty rare around here; and when they do happen, they often arise from the strangest topics. The most recent one I can think of started out with someone asking if Toydarians were resistant to Force influence or completely impervious to it. And then all **** broke loose.

One thing I can recommend, however: if you have some house rule or homebrew that you want to run by the community, don't get upset and defensive if people don't like it. Nothing good will come of it.
