Ideas for Urban Fantasy Archetypes and Sub-Species?

By Johan Marek Phoenix Knight, in Genesys

Hello! The second world I am working on in the OmniSphere is Earth Beta, The Unseen World, an urban fantasy setting, and I need some help with the Archetypes/Species. In this setting, there are no monster PCs, but there can be PCs that are changelings/scions (Half human, half something else, like faerie, demon, etc). With all the many variations of creatures out there, I am lumping them into basic archetypes based on their stat, and then splitting them into sub-species.

I have the Brute Archetype (more Brawn less Presence) , the Charmer Archetype (More Presence, not sure what it should have less of yet), and I am trying to think of a name for a Agility-based Archetype and a Cunning-based Archetype, and some subspecies to go with them. I already have the subspecies down for Brute and Charmer. Anyone got ideas?

Here is the Brute for an example:

Brute:

Brute Abilities

Brawn Agility Intellect Cunning Willpower Presence

 3 2 2 2 2 1

Wound Threshold: 11 + Brawn

Strain Threshold: 9 + Willpower

Starting Experience: 90 xp

Brute Sub-Types:

Troll Changeling:

Starting Skills: 1 rank in Brawl or Melee

Regeneration: Whenever healing wounds due to natural rest, heal 1 additional wound. You do not recover additional wounds when receiving first aid or medical treatment. You can regrow lost limbs, which takes roughly about a month before the limb is usable.

Ogre Changeling:

Starting Skills: 1 rank in Resilience

Magic Resistance: Add one Failure to any Magic checks targeting you.

Demon Scion:

Starting Skills: 1 rank in Coercion

Unholy Origins: Blessed/holy weapons count their Crit rating as 1 when used against you, and Acts of Faith checks gain one Bonus die when used against you.

Demonic Claws/Spikes: Demon scions can pull out retractable claws/spikes to add +2 damage to unarmed Brawl combat checks they make. Their Brawl combat checks also gain the Burn 1 and Vicious 2 qualities, and have a Crit rating of 3.

Rather than create sub-types of a single Archetype, I’ve been lumping different Archetypes under a single Species. In the spiritpunk/steampunk setting I’m building, I’ve got two Scion species - Celestial and Infernal - with three Archetypes each. For Celestial, I provided Protector, Avenger, and Herald, while Infernal Scions include Brute, Rascal, and Fiend.

Here’s my Brute.

BRUTE

Brawn: 3 Agility: 2 Intellect: 1 Cunning: 2 Willpower: 2 Presence: 2

  • Starting Wound Threshold: 12 + Brawn
  • Starting Strain Threshold: 8 + Willpower
  • Starting XP: 90
  • Starting Skills: A brute starts with one rank in Coercion during character creation. They obtain this rank before spending experience points, and may not increase Coercion above rank 2 during character creation.
  • Head Ringer: Once per session, your character may spend a Story Point as an incidental. If they do so, the next Brawl or Melee combat check they make during that turn gains the Concussive 1 quality (or adds one rank of the Concussive quality to a weapon that already possesses the Concussive quality).
  • Aether Vulnerability: A brute's infernal blood makes them vulnerable to weapons with the Aether quality. If a brute suffers wound or strain damage from a weapon with the Aether quality, increase the damage by 1 per rank of Nether.
