Re-Tooling Fan-Made EotE Jawa for AoR

By HaphazardNinja, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hey all. I have a buddy who wants to play a Jawa in AoR. First, what are your thoughts on this homebrew Jawa stat-up for Edge of the Empire?

Second, I was thinking about substituting the Outlaw Tech Talent Tree with the Engineer Mechanic Talent Tree to keep everything in our own books. Thoughts on that and, if negative, what would you do instead? Thanks for the feedback!

I wouldn't give them free access to any talent tree unless you do the same for every other player.

I would just trade out deceit with mechanics and be done with it. Or you could give them the Utinni! Or Grarhead talents.

Obviously, do what you want for your game. Whatever is fun is the right answer.

For Consideration:

Jawa (Age of Rebellion)

Characteristics : Brawn (1), Cunning (2), Presence (1), Agility (2), Intellect (3), Willpower (2)

Wound Threshold : 8+Brawn
Strain Threshold : 10+Willpower
Starting Experience : 110 XP

Merchant Culture : Jawas are raised in caravans of traders and can spot a shady deal. They begin with a 1 rank in Nobody’s Fool [Upgrade the difficulty of incoming Charm, Coercion, and Deception checks once per rank of Nobody’s Fool.]

Junkyard Tinkerer : A Jawa whelp’s day-to-day revolves around building with scrounged odds and ends. They remove up to 2 Setback dice from Mechanics checks.

Wretched Reputation : Jawas must add 1 Setback die to their pool when rolling any social interaction skill against a party with whom they have not previously interacted.

It looks pretty good. I think two 1's and only one 3 to compensate is a bit harsh; I'd probably bump Presence to 2 to account for their ability to negotiate.

The special abilities are good, but you should probably drop one of them; very few if any FFG species have three abilities. I'd drop the reputation bit, I think; it's thematic, surely, but other disreputable species don't get such a penalty (such as Aqualish, Bothans, Chevin, or Toydarians). Considering Jawas are from a relatively out-of-the-way planet, their reputation is unlikely to be that universally applicable anyway.

Just some food for thought. Over all, I think you're on the right track.

Jawa 2.0 (Age of Rebellion)

Characteristics : Brawn (1), Cunning (2), Presence (2), Agility (2), Intellect (3), Willpower (2)

Wound Threshold : 8+Brawn
Strain Threshold : 10+Willpower
Starting Experience : 110 XP

Looks good!

I think nobodies fool is a potentially wasted talent very few gm's I've played with run a lot of opposed social checks.

I think giving it a choice of a rank in negotiation or deception

And utinni

Is probably have the 3 in cunning as it covers both survival and deception as drop xp to 100

Or have a 3 in int and cunning and drop xp to 80

i been looking for a jawa to use in the game i like yours it can be used in all games i was thinking in doing this. the jawa begins the game with their choice of either mechchant culture or junkyard tinker. if you do not like the talents then give out the skills starts off with 1 rank in just in mechanics or 1 rank in Negotiation & Deception ( see book friends like these pg 7-8 race mandalorian humans). because not all jawas are good in mechanics or talking.

It seems slightly OP to have so much positive and so little downside. I’d add in something to compensate. Maybe a reduction in XP to 90-100 Range or add in a deficit that must be overcome for 10 XP or left in place.

There are some good Jawa stats in the Unofficial Species Menagerie if I recall correctly.
