Looking for spirit deck ideas

By Silvery, in Strategy and deck-building

I have this bad habit that every time that i play more than 1 spirit hero, i always end up using Zigil Miners with Stargazers. They compliment each other so well and they give spirit decks some vital resource generation so i don't know what else to play really. It just seems like that there's no other good options for solid spirit decks. I have every AP up to Flight of the Stormcaller.

Suggestions or even full deck lists are appreciated :)

Arwen is the other good resource generator for Spirit. Caldara can save you a lot of dough too.

But often with Spirit I'm either pairing it with Leadership or looking to play cheaper cards rather than relying on resource generation to get me through.

Santa Theoden gives you a Christmas present of 1 resource savings per round. Ziggy and the Stargazer are nice, but there are good decks that don't use them. Are you looking for mono-spirit or willing to splash out?

Splashing Leadership is obvious, there are plenty of resource-generating cards in that sphere. But here are some other cards that can be good:

Spirit Theoden for a Rohan deck, To the Sea! for a Noldor deck, Arwen for any deck. Gandalf hero with his staff.

Or get tricksy: Gandalf with a Pipe and Expert Treasure Hunter can turn Hidden Cache into a 2-resource card every turn. Vilya with Elrond can play Resourceful for free (but include Stargazer or Gandalf to nail it down). Of course, both of those options are harder to set up and you can't count on them from turn 1.

Play Secrecy and use Resourceful at its discounted price. Also in the current game, Sword of Numenor (leadership) is more consistent about netting you a resource. There are more 5-hp enemies these days. Still unlikely to get a resource every turn, so don't count on it as your only resource generation.

Resources aside, here are a couple decks, which include as least 1 spirit hero, that I've enjoyed using:

Eored-liners: buff up tactics Theoden to quest for 4, defend for 6, and attack for 8 all in the same round (or lose the defense but get multiple attacks for 8 and then 4): http://www.ringsdb.com/deck/view/82813

To the Sea!, a typical Noldor deck http://www.ringsdb.com/deck/view/1870

Balrog Evasion, a Hobbit deck which I made specifically to pair with a combat deck in Shadow and Flame: http://www.ringsdb.com/deck/view/6992

None of those decks use Zigil Miner + Imladris Stargazer.

I don't use zigil miner/stargazer since a long time because I find it less effective that many others resource generations. It cost 4 resource to setp-up, need two cards and produce among 1.5 resources each turn. I will have plenty of idea for you, since both spirit is my favorite sphere and I build a lot of decks.

First of all hero Arwen is an excellent hero, one of the very best of the game. She gave resource acceleration on the time we need the most: at the beginning of the game. And, in combination with elven light we have access to a draw engine later on the game. I don't play any decks based on her, or using her as a only resource production but she is in many build.

It is not because we play mostly, or even only, spirit heroes that we can't use the demential steward of gondor. Using Narya to give Cirdan the leadership, putting him on top of the deck with wizard pipe and then play it with Gandalf, using vilya to put it in play or having Denethor as only leadership hero are only some of the way to get him in play. Caldara is a great example of that.

Theoden is a good way to pay less the rohan ally, so it is the same as winning resources. Rohan is a spirit centred theme anyway so it fit perfectly

To the Sea, to the sea is similar for noldor, who is also spirit based.

Resourcefull is a good card when you play secrecy. Spirit have the cheapest hero in the game so it is easy
Mono spirit Solo: http://ringsdb.com/deck/view/67007
Mono spirit multiplayer: http://ringsdb.com/deck/view/61602
Spirit / lore multiplayer: http://ringsdb.com/deck/view/60976
Spirit / leadership multiplayer: http://ringsdb.com/deck/view/58352

And finally gandalf staff produce one resource each turn to help the same way

Thanks for good ideas! I especially liked that Gandalf/Treasure Hunter/Hidden Cache combo and i will give it a shot at some point ;)

Thanks for your suggestions too! But here's why Zigil Miner has been so good in my decks: Over 35 cards had a cost of 2 (excluding hidden cache) so there's actually pretty good chance to get resources from Zigil Miner even without Stargazer's help. Of course there are some flaws in this strategy but it has worked pretty well nevertheless. I might try out secrecy + spirit since i haven't played with secrecy in a looong time...
