Just now, TheHumanHydra said:IV, V, VI, I, RO, III, VII, II, VIII -- subjectively. VIII is better than II at the least, but I'm less likely to enjoy it.
AOTC at least gave us some dank memes about hating sand, TLJ on the other hand is just a soulless, plot-hole riddled mess.

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
The Last Jedi
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace
A New Hope : timeless masterpiece, the discovery of a new, deep, interesting universe. You see this one for the first time, then you've really taken your first step to a larger world.
Empire Strikes Back : better technically speaking than IV, due to Kershner; but also way more "old-school" on the perception of women (Leia), when the more modern vision of George's princess in ANH was way better.
Rogue One : classic spaceship porn ! Also, a more "grey" version of the Rebellion is more than welcome. A really good "expanded universe" movie, without 3K lightbasers per minute (yes!!).
Return of the Jedi : too bad Lucas didn't stick to the original plan, for the total happy ending is quite disapointing. (also, **** the 80's and the cute bears)
Then the trash compartment :
Revenge of the Sith : the less horrible of those, at least there's some tension in that one. But still ridiculous characters and situations.
Phantom Menace : Why George ?! I feel like for this movie, surprising people was more important than getting the whole of it coherent. Plus, of course, the Jar-Jar situation...
Attack of the Clones : nope. Just nope. Bouncing ball Yoda, awful special effects, abysmal dialogs...
The Force Awakens : esthetically pleasing, but that's all. A product dimensioned to take advantage of old fan's nostalgia, but in the end, an empty unfunctionnal remake.
The Last Jedi : the most disappointing thing I ever saw at the movies. Bad scenario, stupid situations, dispensable humor, ridiculous characters, ******* cute animals (let's save some ponies!). The characters (good and bad alike) just run from one broken plan to another like headless chickens. I'm still depressed about this ****.
5, 4, R1, 6, whatever.
1. A New Hope
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. The Last Jedi
4. Rogue One
5. Revenge of the Sith
6. Phantom Menace
7. Return of the Jedi
8. The Force Awakens
9. Attack of the Clones
Will only acknowledge the movies released in theaters, most made for TV "movies" are best left forgotten.
Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Last Jedi, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones
The Clone Wars Animated Movie
The Phantom Menace
1. ANH - Classic and well the whole Death Star battle is hard to beat.
2. ESB - This is a close tie really for number one but I ended up giving the edge to ANH, this film though is just great.
3. Rogue One - The first half is slow and plodding, but its second half is really enjoyable and feels really Star Wars.
4. ROTJ - Would be higher but not a huge fan of the Ewoks really, and especially not a fan of the bluray changes to the film with Vader's "No...NOOOOoooo!"
5. TFA - I hate how it rehashes a whole bunch, and the whole Rathgars bit, but Rey's intro was well paced and great, and really this is just being pulled along by the acting.
6. TPM - I dislike Jarjar, and the Pod race bit but I do like the fact they still used physical models for the ships, and the end battle despite Jarjar with it being on multiple fronts was really neat.
7. TLJ - I kind of want to rank this higher, and maybe if I didn't like getting into the details of the franchise I could but there are a lot of things I take issue with and don't feel all that well explained in this film or TFA about the state of the galaxy. This slot might switch places with TFA but right now at this moment until I see the film a few more times is how I feel about it.
8. ROTS - It has really strong points, more than TPM and arguably a better film too. But, bleh for Hayden, Vader's "NOOOOOOOOOoooo!" and Amidala's stuff.
9. AOTC - I hate Hayden Christensen's acting (granted part of that blame goes to George), the only way I even make it through the film is only skipping to Obi-wan's parts.

The Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens, and Return of the Jedi didnt do a lot of world building either. The Original Trilogy relied on a general knowledge of the mythos of empires and rebellions and the underdog to string the lore along.
It wasnt until the prequels that we actually knew what the galaxy was, what the rebels were fighting to restore, and who even the Emperor was. Until that point we only knew the Skywalker's story and a little bit about some side characters, that's it.

This is pretty much exactly my ranking as well. I think I'd probably put it
V>IV=VIII=R1>VI>VII>I>III>CW=II

I confess I have a hard time ranking the Prequels.
While unbearable to watch (JJB, little Anni), TPM is at least the most coherent. Ep. III's Anakin turn to the dark side (and cold blood killing those padawans) made no sense.

Episode 4 with the opening shot and some throw away dialogue sets up that there is a BIG empire out there with a SMALL band of rebels fighting back. The Prequels show scale to give an idea of the large armies both are using. But then look at the sequel trilogy they tell us there is this small Resistance, this New Republic, and some First Order out there, it is all sort of nebulous on how big anything is and how powerful each is. Like who would think that the First Order destroying the capital planet and a few other planets in its system somehow meant that the ENTIRE New Republic fell in that moment if not in the next COUPLE days. We can see that the Resistance seems to be smaller than the Rebellion based off of TLJ but we have no idea just how big the First Order is supposed to be, was Star Killer base a real big loss to them, is a few Star Destroyers a loss? If yes then how are they so powerful. If no then how powerful are they and how did no one except some war veterans and those that idolized them not even give them a passing glance? I get from the books that a good third to half of the New Republic Senate had ties or were sympathetic to the First Order but at somepoint if they were so big you think someone might go "Hey...wait a second."

I have to admit, III is hard to rank above anything just because Anakin's character makes no sense, but I like it purely for the battle scenes and the background it gives to Palpatine. I just know II is the worst of the bunch, so I rate it lowest. Honestly, maybe my ranking of Clone Wars there is a little harsh. For Episode I, I just found it fun. Yeah, I know it's a silly movie, but I still just kinda liked all the cool locations and the Jedi were awesome in that one. Plus, that movie heralded the beginning of one of the greatest LEGO themes ever. That's enough for me.
Right now mine is:
ESB
ANH
R1
ROTJ (really close with TLJ)
TLJ (just one too many WTFs to rank it higher)
ROTS
TFA
AOTC
PM
ESB, SW, R1, RotJ, TLJ, TFA, RotS, AotC, TPM
V, R1, IV, VI, VII, I, II, III, VIII
VI and VII are very close I, II and III as well.
VIII is a distant last. So far behind that i don't even want to watch it a second time on the big screen.
Edited by Reaver027V r1 IV VI VII III I II VIII
Edited by MaxPowerIt's hard for me to rank them as I love them all except TFA, which I just like.
Prior to TLJ my rankings would probably be:
3, 6, RO, 1, 5, 2, 4, 7
2&4 are almost interchangeable.
After one viewing I'm thinking TLJ might be somewhere in the middle. Maybe 6th? Need more viewings.

I like it.
You might want to give Rogue One and Clone Wars another chance though. They're at least better than some of the prequels.
