Draft Question - Characters with additional die abilities

By SgtScales, in Star Wars: Destiny

This question came up in our local group...

When drafting a character with an ability that requires another die (e.g. Seventh Sister needs an ID9, Krennic needs a Deathtrooper), do we need to also draft that additional die? Or can we bring the die from our collection?

Clearer title

I would probably say at least when playing casually you bring those extra dice with you. I find it will be kind of rare for somebody to open a character and the extra die they need to fully use that character in a draft environment.

The answer from FFG was that you use the dice you draft, you can't bring in extras that aren't drafted or from the rivals set.

While i can see a reasoning behind this ("oh i drafted palp! Let me just search for second dice in my box..."), this is something different: this is the ability that tells you to do something. Its like "put a shield token", you don't have those in draft either ;)
I would be perfectly fine with someone who drafted 7sis or krennic to use a dice from outside the draft pool since it is IMO a resource from outside the draft pool that is needed to resolve an ability (like the mentioned shields or resources).

But it need a confirmation from FFG for sure.

I’d like to think that too, but I don’t think FFG will agree with you. I believe that somewhere in the RRG they mentioned that (even in constructed) you have to own the dice to use the ability. So if you drew Krennic but don’t have a DT die, well then you’re just plain out of luck. And so since draft emphasizes even more what you draw, I think Krennic and 7th Sister are just going to be less than stellar.

So Fast Hands can be used on any character in draft? As it says they are not subject to errata. Does this also mean all melee damage is unblockable with a Vibroknife in the pool?

That's what it means. Ammo Belt works on Second Chance. Outer Rim Smuggler and two RotJ can Infinite loop, etc. not likely to happen, but somewhere, in some draft, that'll happen.

Didn't Jeremy post a retraction to that statement?

Here it is

Nice, hadn’t seen that before. Now my only complaint is that this ‘system’ for official rulings is total pants.

System and official have no place being near what FFG is using to get this information out to the players. Granted, Disney supposedly has to approve any changes to the RRG, so FFG probably doesn't have the contractual room to do any better.

Poor Jeremy spammed with all those "can i use dice" emails :D I got the same response (no need to post another).

But nice about the Balance.
