If I have a group of 4 minions, how many ranks in say Brawl do they get, is it by the amount of minions?

Assuming it was one of their group skills, they'd be considered to have 3 ranks.

It's always de number of minions -1.

So it's not common to see minion groups greater than 6. It's better to create more groups instead, if you want to create a horde. i.e. if you want the players to fight against 8 minions, would be better to split in 2 groups of 4, 1 with 5 and 1 with 3, so on.

This is correct. As long as it is listed as a group skill. Otherwise there are no ranks for that minion group.

The trick that people got stuck on back at the start of the SWRPG was that the attribute is upgraded a number of times equal to the number of Minions in the group -1.

In actual fact you compare the attribute value to the calculated skill value. The higher number is the number of Ability Dice in the pool, and the lower is the number of times they are upgraded to a Proficiency Dice.

Every time an individual Minion dies in a group, you recalculate.
