I haven't had a protractor in the home since starting to do math without numbers... Has anyone measured them?
What tricks do you do to visualize double arcs?
Can we start a repository of the angles on each ship?

Edited by Blail BlergVictory front arc- Bigly
In terms of double arc/positioning, I like to form the rough two points of the ships base on where I intend to go with my index and middle fingers. It’s not exact but I think helps me picture the ships base under my hand
Ok for real though. What are the degrees?
I believe each click of the maneuver tool is 22.5 right?
(Plz no radians.)

Yes, 22.5º.
And you can use a ruler and trig to find the angles if you really want to know what they are. SOH-CAH-TOA.
That doesn't tell you everything you need to know to determine the shape of the arc lines, though. The "root" (the end of the line on the inside of the ship token, near the ship fin/stand) starts at different front/rear offsets on different ships.
What do you want this information for?

So I can start to visualize where my arc lines will be when using the maneuver tool. I kinda need to know the angles...
Oh my gods. ........no. I'd rather just measure them with a protractor.
Though, great exercise if I ever need to teach someone to use trig.
I completely buggered thos up with my cr90b friday night. Speed 4 move and if i got the double arc demo was toast. Got the side arc but front was nowhere near. Rrrgh
The CR90 is the only one I know:
Travel straight at your target then do a double click at the last joint. I suspect it's pretty much 45°.
Does anyone actually want to know this information too?
*this section redacted for absurdity.
I'd also like to know the angles. I don't know how useful they will be, but anything math-related is of interest to me. I might actually try and calculate the arcs for a few ships in the next day or so.

Meeeeeee!!!! I want ?
Why would I want to know this?? All I have to do is look at the ship card, close my eyes and I can instantly visualize exactly where it needs to be for a double arc. No math required. Gods, I hate math.

Oh man, this stuff still amazes me. I have a thing called aphantasia that means I can't visualise things in my mind*. It's never bothered me too much (in fact I only found out about a year ago that not everyone is like this) but you just made me realise how much my manoeuvring could benefit from being able to do that... Screw you, brain. ![]()
* Sometimes I get very quick flashes of vague outlines and stuff, and slightly clearer images when I'm just about to fall asleep, but all involuntary.

Wow, I've never heard of this...it's terrible, bro, I'm truly sorry!
I used to play Warhammer Fantasy back in the day when you had to guess what range certain weapons could fire, and I could state "37 and a half inches" and that pile of screaming skulls would land exactly on the head of the model I was aiming for, lol.
In Armada, I can instantly judge pretty much close to a millimeter where a ship is going to end after a maneuver, and by visualizing the base in its final position, can make a very accurate judgement of the arcs covered. This is one of the reasons I don't play Vassal...hehe, hard to visualize on a computer screen.

That's what it's called!!!!!
I remember in grade school art class the teacher would say, ok class close your eyes and visualize a waterfall. I'd sit there and think, well I closed my eyes and all I see is black.

Yeah! I used to think everyone was basically exaggerating the whole mind's eye thing, like it was just a weird metaphor and nobody could actually see things like that. I only realised when I read about aphantasia somewhere, and man did that take me on a weird journey.
Anyway, didn't mean to derail the thread.

I’m glad someone came up with a medical reason why instantly this is a little tactless. Geez.
Please don't make me lose faith in this community AGAIN in the last 2 weeks by once more ridiculing a request for help.

How is Ard telling you how to figure the information out for yourself, belitting you? The belitting was you refusing to follow his advise because it was beneath you.
Yes, Darth is out of order, dont put that on the rest of us.
It makes it absurd to ask for the help of someone who has a protractor directly. Second, that method is time consuming and unneccesary and also prone to calculation errors.
This also shouldn't be hidden knowledge anymore. Apparently, sharing this kind of basic information with the group isn't a priority.
And frankly, Darth's out of order comment is generally the default answer to this type of inquiry. Exactly why is something that is inherently obviously useful and something a few people have expressed interest in SO BORING THAT NO ONE CARES TO HELP FACILITATE not disparaging?
We've made no progress on this.
I'm also pretty sure that someone out there has at least partial info on some of these arcs. But apparently its not worth sharing to the community. Cool.
Edited by Blail BlergJust look at what the responses are (presently), vs the responses that don't exist. What isn't present in this conversation, support for the idea, help to start collecting the data, any sort of inclination to share knowledge.
I've presented plenty of helpful topics in the last few months. Go ahead. Tell me I'm a non-contributing member of the community. This is what was about me last time.

I think that we just need to chill. The post has been up for 24 hours. Not everyone owns a protractor. On top of that, it was asked on a Saturday afternoon. A lot of people have plans for Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. We're getting worked up without allowing time for someone who has a protractor, has time, has the motivation, and has all the models to actually make measurements.
Personally I don't believe that these will be incredibly helpful for myself. Using them would require doing a fair bit of geometry and algebra in your head during the match. On top of that, you still need to visualize things because you can't measure angles in game. Tie this all together with ships getting bumped, assorted non-measured deployments, loose maneuvering tools, etc... It still ends up being guesswork of varying degrees (pun only partially intended).
I don't by any means want to discourage you from gathering the information. I'm just voicing why you may have few people interested in the actual information and why you shouldn't despair that there isn't help for it yet.
You could download an on-screen protractor tool, take photos of your bases, and measure them that way.
