Our Beloved RPG gets a canon reference
So that must mean they appear in the film? That's pretty cool.
Hey why are there D4s and D12s?

I mean, d12s make sense. Challenge and Proficiency dice are d12s. But I'm equally confused as you as to why there would be a d4 or d20 . Those don't exist in Star Wars!

Sorry I meant D20. I guess WotC used those.
It looks more like D&D type dice sets, I have one sitting next ot me now; Wow; but they got the symbols I think, at least it looks like, for the EotE/AoR/FaD games too, butu the D20 and D4 are D&D dice
Awesome on the dice.
But, "DH-17 Blaster RIFLE" is canon too? I must say that the canon visual guides for the past two films have taken a nosedive in editing or the author (Hidalgo) isn't doing his due diligence. I saw some of these same oddities in the Rogue One visual guide, which is Hidalgo's too. In fact, when my new visual guide arrives on Monday I'm apparently going to have older canon visual guides which call the BlasTech DH-17 a blaster pistol while the Rogue One and Last Jedi visual guides (same series) are calling the same weapon a blaster rifle . So, do we average the various sources and call it a carbine now?

Actually, there IS a carbine variant of the DH-17. As for the Blaster rifle version, that too also seems to now exist: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DH-17_blaster_rifle/Canon
Not standing up for the other oddities you may have seen, but the DH-17 one isn't incorrect...from a certain point of view.
Also, just to quote some more Star Wars on this about the DH-17 blaster 'pistol'... "Look at the size of that thing!" (Big grip, barrrel size, huge scope on top, etc.)
Well, we have M4/M16 pistols, so why couldn't a rifle have the same designation as a pistol in SW?
Those must be the fabled "lost first edition" dice.

Did the fake dice luke gave to lea have any meaning or history?

Yup. They were on the Falcon in the original Star Wars. I don't remember noticing them, but at age 6, I was more watching the action that observing the set design.
You can see them in this photo, though.
I suspect we might see the dice again in May.
I think the dice are of those shapes simply to indicate that they're roleplaying dice to those who don't play FFG specifically.
Those sizes and shapes have been used since before D&D and beyond. D4s were used in the Royal Game of Ur, which was a boardgame who's origins go back to at least 2600BCE. 20-sided dice go back to at least the Greeks with examples having been found dating back to the 100s BCD (2nd century BC) that were either used for gaming or for divination.
Here's a nice post showing the ages of some of the dice time.

EotE Second Edition: Confirmed!
I could see the 4 sided dice adding a bit of granularity. Like 2 black sides 1 adv side and 1 success side.
For things that are not quite a bonus die.
The NAME of the dice gives away the reference...
