Deadeye + Os1 - Arsenal loadout title.

By Chiparwen, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So Deadeye allows you to use a focus token to attack with ordnance that would otherwise require a targetlock.

The title says that you can perform secondary weapons against ships that you have locked whilst having a weapons locked token.

I was hoping there may be some synergy here but going for word for word on the card I think it may not resolve how I would like. The title says against targets you have locked and deadeye doesn't treat the focus as a target lock it just allows you to change the action to spend a target lock to spend a focus instead.

Any thoughts?

If you have a weapons disabled token you can only fire if you meet the condition the title gives you: "... against ships that you have locked...". Therefore deadeye won't work.

If you managed to have a target lock and a focus token, you could spend the focus token to shoot it at the target you have target locked, but you're going to find that it's hard to get that kind of action economy on the star wing outside of having a support ship to supply one token or the other. Deadeye doesn't exactly help, but you can certainly find other options. As it stands, you can still shoot homing or harpoon missiles every round for 4 dice unmodded attacks. Add in something like Predator, expertise or PTL and you've got some pretty nasty shots going off.

It's possible via Long Range Scanners (lock your target from out of range, continually focus whilst in range and never spend the lock), but then your ordnance shots are really not going to be doing good damage.

Deadeye is basically worthless with the OS-1 title. There are better epts to use.

better off with Predator to get some innate rerolls since unless you think you can kill the target you probably dont wanna spend the TL (especially if you got LRS)

Also, homing and harpoon missiles don't require you to spend the TL to shoot them, just to have it. So Advanced SLAM into a TL lets you fire the missiles and then re-roll with the TL.

I could see edge cases with proton/plasma torps or cluster missiles and keeping the TL for rerolls or so you have a target for the next turns reload (in particular proton torps with a higher ps buddy firing harpoons), but then you're telegraphing the target...........

As an ept the os1 still just doesn't have the action economy it needs to work properly without 2 ordnance that doesn't include EM or the greens to run ptl really effectively at it's PS. The former just makes it too expensive and the latter runs counter to the concept that it wants to slow roll, reloading as it goes

So... Having a previous TL (via LRS) allows you to use Unguided Rockets with OS-1 title?

Not very useful, but...

Correct. You only need to have a TL on the target to be able to shoot ordnance with OS1, the ordnance itself doesn't need to require it.

Unguided Rockets is doubly bad because then you'll need both a target lock AND a focus to fire them.
