The Pryce of running big ships

By Parkdaddy, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Trying to come up a completely viable* list that uses Pryce on an ISD. So why not take 3 with Avenger to boot. And if Avenger is there, why not get some boarding troopers on all of those ISDs besides of course for Vader.

The idea is to be able to line up more than 1 fully loaded Avenger shot to wipe out some ships. Imagine the non-Pryce Boarding Trooper ISD lines up to exhaust all the tokens on a ship on the round that Pryce holds Avenger to the last activation. That ship then moves into Avenger range and gets shot. Then Avenger gets the next activation and still has its Boarding Troopers to finish off the ship (assuming it’s still there). Dang

The tricks are there to provide all 3 ISDs with a squadron token/dial on a whim, and the flagship can become a Command 1 ship for 2 turns to get out of a jam with Relentless/SFO.

Thoughts?

*not really, but this is a rough draft. Upgrades for this type of list have to be minimal, so optimizing which upgrades and Commander are taken, or whether to grab a huge bid for first is subject to a lot of debate. And once we have the bare minimum to make a list like this viable, then we have the bare minimum to run an ISD under Governor Pryce in other list archetypes. This will allow for optimization

Why not make the Vader ISD a Kuat? You can have Flechette Torpedoes or ER and a defensive retrofit if you can afford them, and better LS use (out the sides) even if you don’t have any space. Dropping Relentless and switching Aresko for Veteran Captain provides some points to play with, maybe? I mean, you can pretty much take squad tokens round one, nav constantly, and be fine. Even VC doesn’t seem absolutely necessary.

Alright, so we’re looking at a Kuat flagship with LS, a 3 Point ordnance, a 3 Point Boarding team, and a 5-7 Point defensive retrofit. Let’s say ECM. So that gives us 112+4+3+3+7 for 129 points, sans a Commander.

For the sake of the triple ISD, I wouldn’t bother with any ordnance upgrades because if you don’t include it on all of them, it’s too easy for your opponent to avoid that one (deployment and activation advantage). Perhaps a defensive retrofit on the flagship would be effective, but with Motti, 3 ISDs are a lot of hull to take on, even without defensive retros. But if we want a defensive retrofit and the option to take an officer who isn’t Tua, I think the Kuat is the way to go. Especially for LS on the side arcs

For the sake of Pryce ISDs, I think we can get away without a defensive retrofit on Pryce ISDs. When flown well, these should ideally be able to stay out of engagement range on the critical round, activate to shoot stuff that has moved into range, and then follow up with a 1st/2nd activation to shoot again and move out of a danger zone. 2 ISD front arcs is brutal for anything. 2 Avenger front arcs is devastating, and whatever the big threat the enemy has can be approached in such a way that a defensive retrofit shouldn’t* matter.
