The X-Wing books are the gold standard of the old EU for me. It was them, and then later the Thrawn trilogy and I, Jedi, that probably contributed as much to my love of the franchise as the movies did. I think that might actually have been another reason why the few chapters of Aftermath that I read fell so flat for me - the character of Wedge is so firmly entrenched in my mind after reading that series that it's really tough for me to just hit 'reset' and think of him as a whole new person.

And by the by, I liked all of the XWing books but personally I like Aalston's run even more than Stackpole's. The three books that centre on Wraith Squadron have a lot of really fun, memorable characters.

That makes sense. I knew him as a character, but mostly from his appearances in other books, so I was not as attached to him.

And I can't wait to get to the Wraith ones. I still need to start the second book.

There is a lot of good stuff in the old canon (and a lot of questionable stuff, lol) but I was never able to dig into it like I wanted, but now I'm making a point of reading them. I'm not far in yet (I'm still staying caught up with the new canon and have the miniature games and a couple non-sw things to take up my time...oh, and that pesky job...) but I am loving the adventure.

I like both Rebels and Clone Wars. Quality of episodes differs a lot in Clone Wars. Some of the best star wars stories ever and some real stinkers as well. While quality is more constant in Rebels, at least in my opinion. Haven't seen a rebel episode yet that is cringe-worthy to watch, can't say the same for clone wars. Clone wars gets great during season 2. But there are some stinkers even in season 4 (I'm looking at you, mon calamari prince!).

Not a comic guy, but I've read the vader series and was happy with them. Didn't care much about the villain (can't even remember his name) and the drawing style for him was off. Like they drew someone they knew in real life. It just didn't fit all that well with the rest of it. But I loved Dr Aphra and the droids. Going to start with the new vader series. Read Aphra as well and it wasn't bad, but could've been better. Haven''t read screaming citadel yet. Any other good comic series? I've heard good things about Maul and Kanan. I hate Poe Dameron in the movies, so going to stay away from those.

The end of season 2 was the two part Boba Fett episode and I liked that very much. It wasn't perfect, but it was a good take on the newly established Boba Fett's a clone of Jango lore. I liked his intensity, and I liked the idea of Aurra Sing being his surrogate mother slash cougar. It was a bit dark. It is too bad Boba has mostly left out of the rest of Clone Wars, save one episode with Asajj Ventress, that wasn't bad, but wasn't great. I would have thought he would have made an appearance in Rebels. I think he's been sidelined in favor of not overshadowing Sabine and all her Mandalorian shtick, which I find some of the weakest parts of Rebels.

I hated that they brought back Maul for Clone Wars. I thought that was a horrible decision on Lucas' part. And i said that having heard the interview were Filoni admits to it being Lucas' thoughts. I really didn't like Savage Opress because it was too much like having two Mauls. For all my dislike of the decision, he anchored some pretty good episodes. So having him return in Clone Wars allowed him to return in Rebels, and while i think they should have tried to make him older, I think his arc with Ezra was quite good. I loved watching Maul manipulate him, and it all culminated with what is, I think, one of the best moments in Star Wars, the showdown with Obi Wan in the desert. So much different than the big drawn out battle in the comic, it was perfectly elegant, and poignant. It showcased Luke's importance, which had been getting muddied with all these Jedi running around. Now, I hate to sound like Cato with his Carthago Delenda Est at the end of every senate session, but... too bad TLJ took a giant crap on him.

I agree. The villain of Vader was the weakest part somehow. It's hard to put any villain next to Vader and make him look good though.

I totally recommend Maul and Kanan. The newer Vader series is fantastic as well. Shattered empire is good. Oh, and Obi-Wan and Anakin is fantastic. It is about them before the clone wars.

I agree with most of what you said. I wish we had seen more boba and I hated the maul decision at first, but they did great things with it. And I love the duel in the desert.

However, I loved TLJ's interpretation of Luke and Sabine is life.

Side note: I once commented on a post on Twitter about how much I hate the Clone Wars droids arc, and Stephen Stanton (the guy who plays Gascon, the little frog dude) commented on it and asked why.

I was super embarrassed. He's actually a really cool guy, by the way, he always posts great Star Wars stuff.

I’m going to admit it: I LOVED the droid storyline arc from Clone Wars.

But it I also agree that it may have been one episode too long.

You know, I've found it to be a lot more divisive than I would have expected when I initially started watching it.
