New Upgrades

By Ronu, in X-Wing

So Saturation Salvo, Threat Tracker, Trajectory Simulator, anyone gotten to really put these to use? How effective or fun were they? More useful than you thought? Less useful? Builds they were on?

Trajectory Simulator will be used a lot if/once FFG makes a FAQ decision with regards to Genius.

they don't need to, dropping and launching are 100% different mechanics, see the rulebook that comes with the resistance bomber.

Threat tracker should have been an Ept called “coordinated joust” Or “deaths dance”.

Its okay on Kylo but sad it’s a tech. Would have been a great ept on a number of pilots (Norra, Shara, Tarn, Vader, Vessery, etc).

I would love to have this on Jake or Tycho.

I think the Proton bomb thrower build has some merit.

I flew against a punisher that had Trajectory Simulator on it. Not thinking about it, it surprises you. Once I get my hands on a BSF17 I am thinking of running a bomblet/sim punisher with Gunboats.

This is also why Deathrain’s ability “After dropping a bomb, you may perform a free barrel roll action.” won’t work with Trajectory Simulator - the bomb is being launched not dropped. Still could be potent on Deathrain. Went up against TS last night on a Resistance Bomber it a very good option for expanding the reach of your Bomber.

Unfortunately, this not clear-cut at all. Take a look at the discussions in the Rules Forum. Eventually I hope this and Deathrain's interactions will be FAQed so everyone can play using the same outcomes.

It is 100 % clear just not in this direction. Genius offers a different drop trigger. TS IS triggered by dropping non action bombs, which genius does.

There's no question that TS does work with genius.

Some local judges, including one who is & was a marshall at system opens, has ruled the opposite based on the wording of the rules in the bomber insert.

Threat Tracker on Zeta Ace is hilarious.

Advanced Optics of Omega Ace similarly. It's like Targetting Synchroniser with him, only you don't need to bring a second ship.

I got goosebumps thinking about Debris Gambit on Dash Rendar until I remembered that the EPT is (rightfully so) small ship only...

My feels for Intesnsity and IGbots...

Really, most small ship only upgrades and IGbots, to be true.

I've played a couple of games with Rebel Nym and trajectory simulator and the board control it offers is just insane. While it doesn't offer a huge amount of front loaded damage ... folk don't want to fly their squad past a held bomb knowing that it is free damage for you ... I found it really helps to force favourable engagements for the rest of my squad.

Still untested against the 3xharpoon Nu squads though ... so it might just die.

Local judges aren't exactly the pillars of rules interpretation. They're just appreciable but very error prone volunteers. (Our judicial volunteers will be no match for the battle hardened rules as written)

RAW is very explicit here. Genius drops a bomb. Instead of dropping it, trajectory simulator may launch it.

Deathrain does not trigger if you're using simulator because you are instead launching the bomb

Literally the only way trajectory wouldn't work with genius is if FFG hard erratas a big fat "**** you and the genius you rode in on" (paraphrased)

My local judge is Ian...

also, not impressed

I keenly remember people citing emails from FFG designers during the extensive but fairly-clear-cut rules interpretations of Omega Leader, trying to claim that Omega L worked against palpatine even if palpatine wasn't on the ship Omega Leader had locked

guess what? Omega L doesn't work that way thanks to RAW, and it never worked that way

people make mistakes, and this is why we write the rules down
