Star Wars Ep 8 happy Friday no spoilers

Happy Friday

best movie this year?

best Star Wars ever?

Happy Friday!

It was better than Force Awakens for me, but I'd still rank some of the prequel movies higher than both. High praise for the soundtrack.

Best this year? Probably not.

Not going until Saturday, but if it falls squarely between Cubanboy's optimistic, and Stasy's pessimistic review, I will be thrilled!

It was garbage. Certainly not the best SW ever.

I doubt it'll top Blade Runner, but it'll be entertaining for sure.

Happy Friday!

I would say it is not the best STAR WARS, but I'm still processing, lots of movie to get through.

Personally I'm on board with Thor: Ragnarok as the best film this year.

Better than TFA, still not my favorite. I feel like these movies are lacking in something big: world building.

I feel like the "magic" of the Original Trilogy was the world building. I remember reading a critic of J.R.R. Tolkien's work that said the interesting part about his world was that it felt like there was even more story just over the horizon. For instance, Aaragorn tells the hobbits (this is in the book, mind you) about a man and elf (Beren and Luthien) that fall in love. It's not really referenced anywhere until you read the Silmarillion and find out about this huge backstory that I won't really get into here.

When I watched the OT, I remember similar feelings of wonder as people made comments about some "Clone War" and the disgust the Imperials had for the bounty hunters. I spent my childhood making up stories about what the Clone War might be about (In my head, it was a lot like a civil war where people were arguing if a clone has personhood because they were manufactured). I never read any of the novels, so it was something I was excited to learn about in the Prequels.

In the new movies, I feel like every chance they get to do this world building where you seed plot points you may or may not wrap up later are suddenly dropped. I won't go into depth out of respect to people who haven't watched it yet. Talk to me in about a month and I'll happily critique it.

All-in-all, entertaining as ****. Go enjoy it. It's not my favorite, but at this point, I try to separate my "critic" brain and my "child-like" wonder.

Original or 2049?

I probably won't see it till after the holidays, my partner has yet to be initiated to Star Wars and all my free time is shared with her till the 2nd.

well, we were speaking about best movies of 2017, so I thought 2049 was a no brainer

Episode 8 doesn't open in China until 5th January. I will have to wait until then.

I really enjoyed the movie. It ranks somewhere around 3-4. It was so different yet so familiar at the same time. I always go into a Star Wars movie with the expectation of being entertained and I’m never disappointed.

My god, the First Order is just a front for the hidden Porg Empire!
