Superior Armour does... Nothing?

By Direach, in Genesys

RAW, the Superior quality for armour appears to do nothing, mechanically (although I suppose it might look shinier). Am I missing anything? If not, I'm thinking less encumbrance, but not sure about additional soak... a character with Brawn 4 and +3 Soak from armour is highly resistant to most weapons, even without defense and talents.

I guess I'd rule it generates automatic threat on attacks against it.......?

If you mean the item quality "Superior" and if it hasn't changed from Star Wars then it both improves the Soak by 1 and reduces the Encumbrance of the armor for a single Hardpoint. If it has changed, I can't help you because I don't have my book in my hands yet.

I looked and there doesn't appear to be a Superior attachment for armor. Rule change then?

Not sure what the issue is. It reduces incumberance and is easier to be stealthy in.

He's looking on page 92 where it discusses armor in Chapter 5: Equipment. In that regard, he is correct. It doesn't mention Superior armor in the Armor section.

Magic Plate on page 145 mentions that it doesn't have the drawbacks of normal plate (lighter and two fewer setback dice to stealth).

On page 88, it describes the Superior Item Quality as: "A Superior item is a sterling example of its kind, representing masterful craftsmanship. A Superior item generates automatic Adv on all checks related to its use."

On page 209, it says, " Rare Metals

Many fantasy settings feature rare, nearly magical metals that can be used to create superior armor. This kind of attachment makes sense in fantasy settings.

Use With: This attachment can be applied to chain or plate armor.

Modifiers: The armor reduces its encumbrance by 2, and it adds one fewer Setback to Stealth checks.

Hard Points: 2."

As you can see, each mention of Superior Armor comes from different sources (metal, magic, etc.) and has a different impact on the armor itself. So you'll have to mix-n-match or pick your favorite.
