Drop / Launch

By TheDoncastrian, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Deathtrain ability says to do a free BR after dropping a bomb.
Rules say you can't drop more than one bomb in a round.

Therefore, Rules as written are: either you can launch a bomb during the execute maneuver step, and then drop an another during your action step, or Deathtrain gets to use ability after launching despite the wording distinction.

Any consensus on which would be correct (if "none", why?) - or indeed, more likely to erratad / FAQd

This will need an FAQ, but right now, nothing prevent you from Launching a bomb and then Dropping an action one later on... Yes, it is probably not the intent, but this is the rule as written for now..

We can't just say, clearly for the ounce per round, Launch means the same thing as drop...

As I expected. Worked out that a punisher can launch a bomb, and then drop a mine right on top of it hehe.
Wondering if they will then errata deathtrain to work with launching too.

I will wait. :)

This test answers both your questions: is launch the same as drop?

No.

RAW - a ship can launch and drop an action bomb in the same round. I’m predicting the next FAQ will include launch in the 1 bomb/round limitation.

Deathrain cannot perform a free barrel roll after launching a bomb.

You are basically assuming if A is false, then B is true. That only works if launch is made equal to drop for all purposes. There is potential for both to be false.

Deathrain doesnt get the ability off of the Launch unless they faq' it to just be a synonymous word, which also kills the double-bomb. As of right now, Launch is =/= Drop, which is the subject of the discussion to begin with.

He doesnt want this anyway. Adv Sensors gives him just about as much reach as Trajectory anyway (note: bomb forward -> barrelroll forward -> 4k clears your own bomb, i do it all the time and it always catches people off guard)
Redline on the other hand would love this, since then he can hang back to fire his missiles/torps and still use bombs :)

Oh, stop trying to confuse everyone by bringing reason and logic into the discussion!

Does Genius work with Trajectory simulator? I'm thinking it does, but after seeing this, trying to make certain.

Yes it does but you have to discard the card even if it's bomblet generator.

Yeah he would because Trajectory just interrupts the usual drop effect while Genius adds a different point in time where that drop occurs.

Which is probably the main reason he got faq'd so fast to not work with bombletts very well. Nym with Trajectory would have been even worse than he was.

Extra munitions gives you one shot to launch a bomblet with Genius. Assuming somebody sets up across from you at the beginning, you can do a 4-straight, launch a bomblet and it will be inside a range close enough that could hit a ship moving a speed 1 or more.

Next turn you launch another prior to making a 1-straight and you may have a another bomblet damaging from behind, while you launch a Harpoon or other missle type.

My next tournament, I'm going to take that set-up and maybe see if I can get Cad Bane into the mix.
