Putting one's disappointment into words can be some sort of catharsis, at least it is for me. I want to share my experience with people. I want you guys to know that I have never, ever been so disappointed in a movie. I want to read opinions from others. What they liked, what they didn't like. It helps to overcome this overwhelming feeling of 'meh' I have right now. Not every post on here is horrid.

That information rolled around when the Star Wars show previewed all the new vehicles. I don't even know if its anywhere else, though- did they even name it the Raddus in the movie? Maybe I missed it, but isn't that par for the course in some respect? No one named the Devastator or the Tantive IV in the movie...

What I'm saying is as long as what's on screen fits with the information provided elsewhere, I'm of the opinion that it's better not to bog anything down with exposition of technical readouts that can be found if looked for elsewhere.

But se have so many movies before this movie. We have established rules, physichs and stuff. That hyperdrive bull changes the established rules. There exist alot of other problems, but this is a clear example of the director making ship Up to suit his script. This is filmaking 101

Ah, I guess I took your post too general. I was referring to the automatisation and secondary information about tech in Star Wars. I guess I'm less bothered by the hyperspace ramming, but I get where the disillusion and disbelief comes from.

I guess we can all agree that this was no Hammerhead ramming.

What a huge disappointment.

I liked some of kylos scenes, especially how he fooled snoke.

I liked snoke, he seemed competent and mocked tfa kylo all the right way "you are a child with a mask"

I liked some of the luke scenes.

I even liked the confrontation between rey and luke, where he easily bested her with a lightsaber.

I liked the first half of the phasma-finn fight and hoping he'd be bested but makes it out bruised, so that she can be a bit more menacing and in the next movie.

I liked lukes force illusion trick, because the "he survived the barrage" left me sour and it tricked me too, well within star wars logic.

What I hated (much more) I already posted.

Good point sir. I'm sad for you since I were where you are now. I was at a fan screening from Disney on tuesday in cologne, germany and left the cineman pretty much like the majority seems to have left the movie here in this thread. I was confused and disappointed. The movie did has awesome scenes, but so many parts didn't seem right to me.
I hated to comedy parts, I hated Rey being a no body, I hated how they killed off Snoke and I still hate Leias Superman scene. I still love Lukes scenes on Crait, since in my opinion it shows, that Luke is the greatest Jedi there ever was. I loved seeing Yoda again and many more parts, but in the end, after reflecting over the movie, I was disappointed, maybe because in my headcanon, I thought of after stuff they could have done in this movie, like Snoke being Darth Plagieus.

But than I ran to another screening on thursday because I had the tickets in advance, before I know I could make it to the screening on tuesday. Man, I love this film now. I can't tell you exactly what have changed for me. Many parts still bug me. Leias Superman scene will ever be totally trashy to me. A few humorous scene still don't work for me (Chewies scene, where he is going to eat a Porg, the strange creatures on the island and Poes mother joke, to name a few), but the humor this time clicked with me. The first time I thought that it was simply a slap stick kind of humor, where in the feeling of nostalgia I thought that the humor in the OT was mor character and interaction driven. Seeing the movie a second time, I realised, that it has many character und interaction diven humor as well. Even the most scenes where in line with this kind of humor I would say.
Rey being a no body isn't set in stone. After seeing the movie again, I realised, how Kylo specifically told Rey, that he knows who her parents are, when they were in the elevator, where they speak about their visions. Later it is revealed, that Snoke gave them this connection and probably also this visions, so maybe Kylo thinks he knows who her parents are, but it is possible, that Snoke did gave him this vision. I'm not sold that she really is a no body.

My biggest complain, that Snoke is killed off easily stands, but maybe he isn't dead at all? I can't find anything, if Andy Serkis has a contract vor Ep9, but there is still hope for me.

So long story short, what I would like to say is this: If you (and any other one, who was disappointed by the movie) had the same feelings about the movie as I had, maybe it is worth it, to see it a second time. The first time, the movie didn't felt like Star Wars to me. The scenes on the casino planet felt like Harry Potter stuff and the jokes felt like a parody, especially, at the end in the "landry room" I thought I'm seeing a Space Balls like rehash. The second time, the movie felt through and through like Star Wars to me.
After the first screening I would have given the movie a 6-7 out of 10, now I would rate it at 9 out of 10 (nevertheless, Empires is still the best SW )

I hope it does for everybody disappointed now. Actually, now I can't wait to see it a third time.
Maybe watching it another time, one is more prepared for the things that might not add up.
I was theorising all the time till this movie hit theaters and the one thing we can't complain about is, that it didn't took risks. It is totally new for a Star Wars film, no Empires 2.0. And I guess, since I had my own headcanon, that Snoke might be Darth Plagieus, Rey must the the daughter of Luke or Leia and Hand and so on, I logically was disappointed, since nothing of my headcanon seems to be true and the movie took an unexpected direction.

Ok, I've seen it twice (I think I have tickets to three more showings) and it does get better again. I think the shock of all these reveals, twists, and such really threw people off to how good this movie is.

I like the Phantom Menace. I like everything except the CGI and JJB.

I like The Last Jedi. I like everything except Snoke's death (I wish he could have been around longer to rip apart the Resistance) and Leia's space scene.

TPM and TLJ aren't bad movies, people just tend to focus on the things that they really, really hate about them. Focus on the good parts when you see it again, and it's waaaay better.

Right now, it just seems impossible to look beyond what broke this movie for me. Again, it wasn't the 'what', but the 'how'. Let me try to explain. I don't have an issue with any decisions they made story-wise. How it all played out in the end, I am more than fine with. I like the curveball they threw at us by killing Snoke. I like that Luke dies and the way he goes out. I especially loved every scene on Ahch-To between Luke and Rey. The idea to have Rey and Kylo connect was great. I'm sure I'd find many more things that I liked if I think hard.

But why did they choose to make this a comedy? Yes, it felt like a comedy. I know I am repeating myself here. I am a big fan of almost all the Marvel movies, in no small part because they handled the humor so well. And then Thor: Ragnarok came along. It suffers from exactly the same flaw that TLJ does: no feeling or subtlety whatsoever for when is the right moment for a joke and when it would better be left out. Actually, the opening scenes of both Thor: Ragnarok and TLJ sum up perfectly what ruined both movies for me. When we see Thor dangling from the ceiling on a chain, the villain monologues. Thor interrupts him (because the chain is turning and he's slowly turning away from his adversary) and tells him to wait until he comes around again. It was funny and I laughed. Then the same thing happens again. Then it happens a third time. EXACTLY the same thing happens in TLJ with Poe and Hux. The first time Poe is "holding for General Hux", it's funny. But then they beat the joke to death, which sets the tone for the whle movie. Whenever the opportunity arises, the filmmakers decided to crack a joke. Does it fit the situation? Doesn't matter. Are we supposed to feel scared, tense, excited right now? Doesn't matter. After the first half of TLJ was over, this lack of subtlety, of respect for the moment alone annoyed me so much that I just gave up.

Could you imagine how awful it would have been if in "A new hope", instead of just seeing Vader choking a guy for disagreeing with him, the other Officers would have busily looked away or whistled nonchalantly, so that Vader wouldn't turn on them, too? That's what the humor in TLJ is like. Pie in the face slapstick bullcrap.

However, maybe when I see it again (certainly not in a theater), those flaws will kind of water down. I'll be happy if they do.

Honestly I get why people will hate this movie but I think this will end up being hailed as the third or fourth best Star Wars after Empire and Hope

Its very different than what was expected and it will leave a very strange taste in the mouth but that’s not a bad thing. It took risks and while not all of those risks were awesome in the moment there was certainly payoff to them all

even something like the canto byte adventure helped them establish what the difference that they are going for between this saga and the original

war is **** and I love it. It also was there to help put the idea that there are things beyond the saga that we love.

not sure if Rey definitely has no important parents but I love it. This brings it against the grain of everything is connected

snokes death was perfect for me and really made a good point of it doesn’t matter who he is.

This is movie was the antithesis to what we expect out of Star Wars but that works

the Yoda scene is really the point of the movie

we have to be willing to let go and make mistakes even if it’s scary

also the thing I LOVE about this movie is how all of the main characters

Rey Finn Rose and Poe

were wrong. They made mistakes

they expected things to go one way because that’s what always happened in the stories

thats what the legends did

but they were wrong and they had real consequences for being wrong.

Also Holdo was the best and had the best death

Lukes death was also perfect

oddly enough it managed to make one of what should be the saddest moments in Star Wars peaceful and feel right

the pacing was weird, especially canto byte (but again I feel like it was important because it reinforced character mistakes and brought in those kids for that absolutely amazing end bit)

on the one hand he did kill snoke and take over on the other hand that scared child line Luke said when recounting his turn was so perfect and made it really seem like they will.

Edit: also to those who said the comedy was too much I appreciated it actually it gave needed levity in a movie that was honestly the bleakest Star Wars has been

Maybe they will. I felt so my first screening to. The second screening I saw more the pessimistic situation the resistance is in and how they showed it, by having the fleet on the run the entire film (regartless that it's a bit strange, that no FO ships jumped ahead, to confront them on both sides). It didn't felt like a comedy to me the second time. Maybe that's because my first screening was with 700 people in the cinema and the second time we were maybe 80. There were more laughs with 700 people than with 80.

By the way: I'm not sure if Luke is "only" a force ghost now or one with the force or if he is something even more powerful. I only did get this after watching it again. He first left "our" world, but after he left, there was a scene were Kylo picked up the dice of Han and they vanished. So he must have had some form of his projection force active after he left the world or it is simple a filming issue.

On Yoda summoning lightning why didn't a Jedi master do the same to Palatine, having force ghosts actually able to effect the mortal realm opens up a massive can of worms.

I am mostly just confused. The film had some great moments and awesome visuals, but also lots of strange and frankly just stupid stuff. The whole space "battle" and the casino run.. the bombers.. the island natives and the porgs.. oh please.

The Supremacy explosion was visually awesome. The Kylo vs. Luke scene was beautiful. Luke's departure was touching and good. Adam Driver was great.

But mostly I just did not feel there was a real sense of danger, suspension, or much of anything. Things just happened.

Not a bad movie, but I think I liked TFA better. And TFA was like 50/50 for me.

Sign of the times, the Marvel films have the same issue of trying to cram a whole tv series into a single film.

Compare and contrast to ESB with it's 4 or so plot points with the absolute barrage of stuff in this one.

Honestly this movie is really really good and the entire thesis of the film is that Yoda scene

I think a lot of the film will improve on a second viewing for most people and while some people hate it right now a lot of people hated empire when it came out because it changed everything

now this movie has as well and we need to accept it

edit: idk I thought Finn was totally going to die in that film in the “sacrifice” scene and the tension was alway up for me because while the main characters were safe so many others just kept dying and that was the point Leia made in the beginning

I hoestly really, really like Kylo's progression throughout this movie, he a actually becomes a cool character. Rey is still incredibly boring saday. Rose almost single handedly manages to ruin the movie for me, she is the most forced character I have ever seen, she contribites nothing to the plot and ruins Finn's scenes. I get that they wanted to have female characters present throughout the entire movie, but man Rose really killed the movie for me. Luke was great, the praetorian guard scene was surprisely good, and the new Lando was awesome. Leia is extremely meh and is honestly outshone by the general who takes over when she goes unconscious. Also Ackbaar dies da **** is up with that

Basically it is a great movie completely held back by annoying pointless characters forced in for diversity's sake

Well I went on twitter its clearly not just x-wing players deeply disappointed/hating the movie.
