Considering what we've seen in the last two movies, it's not as though the First Order lacks resources.

The Resistance currently comprises of less people than the crew of SW-0608.

I saw the movie last night, and it was a major disappointment. By far the worst impression of all the 8 episodes (yes, including the prequels!!). There's very little in the overall storyline/execution that I appreciated (Luke's arc, except the last "tele-presence" part), and quite a lot of things that were annoying...

Didn't go through all the pages here, but I can relate to most of the critical feedback from pages 1-2.

One of the very ridiculous things that I'm not sure was mentioned was their use of gravity in outer space. Bomber "bombing" the dreadnought as if we were on the planet surface (with super strong gravity driving the bombs straight down)? Cannon shots killing the transports being curved/arced? Come on guys...

Rogue 1 was SO GOOD compared to this. I think I'm going to watch Rogue 1 again this week to wash down this bad taste from my mouth

Yeah the real difference between Fett and Phasma is Phasma didn't do anything cool in her first film. Fett came along, looked cool, and ACTUALLY GOT AWAY WITH HAN SOLO!

Boba Fett is set up as a badass bounty hunter, and he DOES a lot in ESB. He's an ancillary character, but he's shown to be competent and his motivations as they relate to the story are clear.

Phasma stands around and looks shiny a bunch before and after giving up the codes in TFA. People WANT her to be badass, but the writing/directing never give her a chance to shine. This is made worse because they set her up as a personal villian to Finn, but there's no fleshing that out. She's in charge of the Stormtroopers and she's mean. That's all we ever see out of her.

I was convinced that the worldbuilding bar Abrams set up was so low it was lying on the ground, but there we are, someone managed to sneak below that. I'm flabbergasted by the complete lack of any sense of scale and scope, and I've seen TFA three times.

That's it for the sequels for me, I hope Filoni's next TV series won't be set in this hopeless era. And with Johnson being in charge of the next trilogy it looks like spin offs are our only hope.

The only good thing that comes from this trilogy is that more and more people come to appreciate Lucas and the prequels.

I find that funny as Rogue One had the tougher task to please fans as being a "prequel" you knew the general end result of the movie, as well as having a bit less tension because you knew certain characters can't die, and others are likely to die if they aren't in the other movies.

The biggest problem is LFL doesn't have a good outline for the sequels. They are letting different writers and directors do their own thing for each movie. Thus you end up with a lazy ep7 to be "safe" for the OT only fans, and then they go too crazy (from what I hear) with ep8 trying to be "different" this time, but end up being a movie that doesn't seem like star wars as much anymore.

Say what you want about George Lucas, but I think whatever his outline was for the ST is probably better and more cohesive than what we've gotten so far. It's probably why Mark Hamill recently spoke out saying Disney should have used Lucas' ideas.

You have hit the nail on the head. Disney had a lot of input in to R1, but I just don't know what they have all been doing with the Episodes. The scripting is awful, the storyline is so disconnected and I fear we are going to end up with a bit of a mess of a trilogy. I want to read George's script!

I didn't hate TFA, I think Abrams gave just about enough to setup a decent trilogy....Right now I can't see how he can conclude this trilogy, unless disney are already thinking about another episode trilogy?

Having said all of that, the film still managed to grip me and even pull at the emotions. I liked all of the early scenes with Luke/Rey and then Yoda later on, thought it was all brilliant. I didn't mind how Luke came to his end, but I really wanted him to be a central (living) character in the next episode. He died allowing to let his mates escape (much like Obi-Wan did)... I wanted one of the older characters to have a real effect on this trilogy rather than being throwaway characters (if you get me). Han is gone, Leia probably will not be involved much from now, and Luke will probably turn up as a guidance ghost in episode 9. Snoke's quick death after a really great throne room scene left me feeling sour.

The casino scene and the slicer character were great at the time, but looking back it has added zilch to the movie. Plasma reached a rushed conclusion also, what a bloody waste!

I can't believe I am going to say this....but part of me feels like we could have done with a prequel trilogy to this one! I always like to know the in's and out's of a story.

My hope now is that Abrams can make this movie look better than it currently feels, by giving us a kick *** conclusion!

I never disliked the prequels but 8 has elevated them to new hights for me. They have their flaws but they are fun to watch. Clones is considered the worst by many but the Obi-Wan plot alone is heads and shoulders above anything in 8.

Why did they have Luke using his old lightsaber when he confronted Kylo? Not only did they use the younger version, which I only assume because that was what he looked like the last time all the characters saw him, but he was using what we all just saw break in half. The reveal that he wasn't really there wasn't a surprise because his age and the lightsaber. He should have at least used his emerald lightsaber, it might have put the idea that he could have been there but "cleaned up". The ability to force project is an insane power, and it was used greatly, but if it was meant to be a surprise, it was done poorly.

I am currently ok with his death, as it served a purpose, but if he does not appear in episode 9, I will be sour, Rey still needs some mentoring. Especially since he can have a real impact, seeing Yoda confirms that a force ghost can fully interact with the living world, and Rey could use a gently used green saber.

They were obviously propulsion based just like every other piece of ordanance in Star Wars.

The Resistance very clearly strapped all of explosives they had into this fighter wing.

The Prequels are fun to watch? God, I tried to do a SW marathon before Ep. 8 and I couldn't finish Ep. 1. The Prequels get (even) worse as the time passes.

ito plot though, good lord no they're horrible

the Last Jedi was a lot of problems with unnecessary scenes and plotlines that don't go anywhere, but I personally really enjoyed the Luke + rey + ren storyline and even the dueling philosophies of the fleeing resistance . I think they have far more dramatic stakes than the prequels could ever hope to have

I agree that Phasma had far more potential than Boba

Boba was just a stone-cold cool dude with no real relation to the plot, more of an homage to badass westerns

Phasma, as the apparent head of the storm troopers, was the figurehead of the cold, merciless conditioning of the first order. If we had actually seen said conditioning (especially via Finn's point of view), I think her story-arc would have been far more fulfilling
