Poe and Hux's exchange was funny because we can all relate to using Skype and Google chat and having that exact same problem. It was appealing to the modern audience.

It was not the nature of the joke that bummed me out. Not at all. It was the execution. They could have had Hux take Poe's abuse with contempt and dignity. It would still have been funny and unexpected, but it wouldn't have reduced the opening scene, the intense moments that followed and first and foremost one of the main villains to a joke.

Honestly, what kind of setup is that? How did anybody think that this would set a great tone for the movie? Poe's "Who talks first?" in TFA worked, because it was quick, unexpected and funny. But then we were back in business. This one kept going on and on and oooooon!

It makes sense that her parents are nobodies. Just like Anakin was born to a slave on Tatooine. The parent(s) don't matter.

Snoke even says that she is the light that rises to meet the dark (Kylo). That's why she's so powerful, she's the force trying to establish balance by surging strength into a single being.

Over all I liked the movie. The casino scene was fun and different than anything we've seen in universe and the animal escape felt very Indiana Jones. I agree that the biggest plot hole was the whole cruiser chase mumbo-jumbo. Better if they went with a nebula or a black hole cluster or something. Snoke's death I actually liked, even though I was curious about his character. It was so unexpected, which is good for a series that has been accused of re-hashing the previous films. I also liked how Kylo is now front and center as a badass bad guy. His character arc was really all about stepping out from Vader's shadow and not just trying to copy him (he finally ditched his superfluous helmet).

That being said, I would probably put it on par with TFA. It's better than Return of the Jedi but nowhere near A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back.

I don’t think most people believe that line about her parents being nobody. That was Kylo smashing her down to make it seem like he was all she had.

It worked with Kylo/Poe because Kylo didn’t even engage with him. He just had him hauled away and fu**ing tortured! If Hux had simply turned around and shouted “blow him out of the sky!” then it would have hit the mark perfectly....

Plasma is useless and boring. She’ll probavly come back, but I hope not. There were 2 actresses from Game of Thrones that were in this movie that I’d be happy to not see again. They are Lady Aren and Briannebof Tarth (I may have misspelled those names).

This is going to be one of those movies where you have to have an open mind when watching, because it's all in the little things.

The battle in the beginning hinges around random bombardier #5, who heroically dies in an assault Poe ordered, and we don't think that much about it other than that she did her job. Anyway, she's wearing half of a kind of Yin/Yang sort of necklace, and the other half of the necklace is later seen on Rose, who then proceeds to be very important to the plot and talk about her sister almost any time she gets a chance. So there's this whole point of that the random nobodies aren't really nobody at all (unless they're stormtroopers, in which case they can all go die in a huge fire. )

The whole Poe/Holdo storyline is really tragic (in a good way). The two characters actually have interesting chemistry and you find yourself wondering why they didn't leave Holdo around for Episode IX, but it's really because both of them wanted to be a hero, and they should've used a team effort. Neither one was willing to budge for the other and listen to each other's advice.

Snoke was killed in a very interesting way actually. It was comedic and silly, but also interesting, because the Force let him see Kylo's thoughts of hatred, of turning the lightsaber, and of igniting it, but the Force didn't let him see which lightsaber!

The Kylo/Rey storyline was very well done in my mind. I really didn't get the feeling of a romance there at any point, which was really good. Kylo still had his weird creepy energy from Episode VII, but Rey was very much a parallel to Luke in Episode VI, never giving up on the good in Kylo. I actually thought that the idea that they are unknowingly linked through the Force was interesting. We haven't neccesarily seen this before, but it makes sense that any time someone becomes too strong in one side of the Force, a parallel rises up in the other. That's how Palpatine got so powerful - there were too many Jedi all at once and they repressed all the Dark Side teachings. And it was also Palpatine's downfall - killing all the Jedi left a void in the light side that was filled by Luke, who, in my opinion, is still the most powerful Force-weilder of all time.

The codebreaker guy was interesting. He really stuck to his guns of being a ruthless money-maker, not really caring about anyone or anything unless he could make money. But then he had that nervous stutter whenever he knew he was doing the wrong thing. And he had exactly one moment of humanity, which was when he gave Rose her necklace back and figured out a way to make it look like he'd planned it that way.

And Kylo was a terrible leader. His rage for Luke was their undoing. If Hux or anyone else had been in charge, they would've just fired one shot at Luke and seen it go right through him and known he was a ghost right away. But of course Kylo had to fire a million shots at him, obscuring him in dust and making it look like he somehow expertly dodged all of them. Then Kylo had to have a long drawn-out lightsaber duel with Luke and waste a ton of time. But I do agree with Crabbok, part of me wishes that Luke had just taken a nap afterwards.

Finn and Rose had a nice storyline and an interesting relationship. I actually really liked it as sort of a diversion from the other parts of the movie.

I kinda feel like it was three movies at once, which, in fairness, is how some of the Original Trilogy movies felt (ok, ESB was two movies and ROTJ was three).

The Poe movie was kind of tragic and depressing, with the heroes barely able to do anything, and a horrible amount of miscommunication, but I still liked it. The climax of that movie was Holdo blowing up the enemy fleet, and getting the heroic death that Poe probably wanted and that neither of them needed to have if they'd just listened to each other.

The Finn movie was fun and interesting and probably the most "Disney" movie of all of them. I really liked it actually, and I thought it was a nice, fun action movie. The climax of that movie was the battle between Finn and Phasma.

The Rey movie was fantastic. Like I said, she was never tempted by the Dark Side or romantically interested in Kylo, she stayed doggedly fixed to her goals, and ended up saving everyone at the end by lifting the rocks and flying them out in the Falcon. And those lightsaber fight scenes!

And then there were the mini-plotlines that I kind of liked as well.

Chewbacca and the Porgs was hilarious. He started off by eating them, and, well, the number of Porgs in the Falcon continually diminished, so I'm guessing he didn't really change that!

The Leia plotline was pretty sad, and all her friends died no matter what she did. But at least she got to see her brother at the end. And I liked her talking to Rey at the end.

And the Luke plotline! He learned so much, and that he couldn't hide from his destiny as the master of the Force. He didn't want to be Obi Wan, but he ended up doing his own spin on that anyway, and made Kylo look like an idiot with his Garmadon-style Art of the Silent Fist.

Fantastic movie. Or really like three movies and three or more mini-movies packed into one. Very much looking forward to seeing it again.

I didn’t like how Force-Ghost Yoda still moaned and grunted when he moved. I figured health care in the light side after life would be better.
